Cops deny dragging feet in missing Briton case
Police are intensifying the search for British tourist Gareth David Huntley, 34, missing since May 27 in Pulau Tioman, and have hence, refuted claims that police were not serious in handling the case.
Pahang police chief, Datuk Sharifuddin Ab Ghani said police, led by Rompin district police chief DSP Johari Jahaya, were serious in the search-and-rescue (SAR) operation for the Briton since he was reported missing.
On May 27, Huntley, who was staying at the Penyu Juara Chalet in Kampung Juara, Pulau Tioman, had gone to the Lubuk Teja waterfall area on the island alone around noon.

PETALING JAYA: The mother of a British wildlife volunteer missing in Tioman is expected to arrive in Malaysia on Monday to join the search for her son, according to Daily Mirror.
Gareth David Huntley, 34, from London, has not been seen since Tuesday on Tioman Island where he was doing volunteer work at the Juara Turtle Project.
The report quoted his mother, Janet Southwell, as saying that she feared her son might be injured and unable to move, and called for British Prime Minister David Cameron’s to help.
In her open letter, she urged Cameron to “make one phone call” to the country’s leader “before time runs out”.
“We need boots on the ground, search teams and dogs so that we can bring our son back alive,” she said, adding that not enough was being done in the search as the family wants “real help”.
Southwell said it was out of character for him to go missing.
“He’s got an exploring nature, he’s intelligent, and hopefully his ability to apply himself will get him through this.
“He was on a break from work, he was due to start a new job in Singapore next week. It’s totally out of character for him to go missing, he just would not do it. He knows there are too many people who care and love him,” she said.
