IRATE consumers slam Rozali’s Syabas concessionaire for WATER CUT

PETALING JAYA - Residents in the Klang Valley slammed Syabas for the water cut Tuesday.

“Water cuts cause difficulties for my family as we need to store water and have to fork out more money to buy mineral water for drinking and cooking purposes.

Water distributor Syabas is controlled by Umno tycoon Rozali Ismail, who has frequently been accused of mixing politics with his business duties.

Those who are away at work won’t feel the effect but housewives like me have to change our daily routine,” Taman Kinrara resident Rachel Thangamuthu said.

“One-day water cut is what they (Syabas) usually say but it will get prolonged,” expressed an angry consumer from Shah Alam who did not wish to be named.

He said the water concessionaire must consider the elderly and children before implementing supply disruption for such long hours, adding that consumers in apartments and flats are the most affected as there is not much room to store sufficient water supply.

One million residents in Selangor, KL to face water disruption from Tuesday

KUALA LUMPUR: About one million residents in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur will face water supply disruptions beginning Tuesday following the temporary partial stop-work at the Sungai Selangor Phase 2 water treatment plant.

..

Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) said in a statement here that the supply disruption would begin at 8am on Dec 17 while supply was expected to resume starting at 9pm on the same day and would continue until 8am on Dec 22, (Sunday).

..

The implementation of the stop-work was to make way for the upgrading, repair and changing of the major assets such as the switchboard and steel pipes.

..

The statement said that it would involve 217,694 consumer accounts, including in several key areas such as the Royal Selangor Club, National Science Centre, Jalan Duta Government Complexes, and the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC).

..

Water supply in most areas was expected to be reconnected within 24 hours after the stop-work operations had been completed, but it depended on the proximity to the source of supply.

PETALING JAYA (Dec 16, 2013): “This is nonsense! How can this be?”

This was the response of a fuming Titiwangsa MP Datuk Johari Abdul Ghani to theSun on the water cut scheduled tomorrow by Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) which will affect some one million consumers in the Klang Valley.

“Their reason for not providing water cannot be accepted. They’ve also been given the duty (by the consumers) to ensure proper supply,” he added.

Johari also questioned the water concessionaire’s move to not deploy tankers during the scheduled 13-hour water cut and called on Syabas to justify its actions to consumers.

“How can we live without water for that long? That’s crazy! They should’ve taken into consideration the suffering faced by the public. Also, why must they conduct this ‘routine exercise’ in one go? Is it because there aren’t enough days to complete it, or there aren’t enough funds for it?” he asked.

PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar, who is Lembah Pantai MP, also weighed in with a text message that Syabas “should have shown some professionalism – it gives us little choice other than to seek an alternative water provider”.

Councils to step in if Syabas fails to supply back-up water

Kow Gah Chie

3:00PM Dec 16, 2013

Local government councils will step in to help residents who are affected by major water disruption starting tomorrow if Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) fails to provide back-up water supply. The decision was made due to Syabas’s inability to provide back up water supply on many previous occasions, said Teng Chang Khim, the state local government, study and research committee chairperson.“The local authorities are willing to help and get ready with tankers and what they have, but bear in mind that this is not our main duty,” he said, reminding that Syabas has the responsibility to provide back-up water supply to the affected areas.

He said the local governments had agreed to help if Syabas was not able to provide back-up water to the people.“I met the mayors and local council presidents at the standing committee meeting and was briefed on water disruption… All the local councils affected have agreed to help Syabas if it fails to send water to affected areas.“The affected local councils include the Shah Alam City Council, Petaling Jaya City Council, Klang Municipal Council and Subang Jaya Municipal Council.“They can only help, as it is the duty of Syabas to reduce the inconvenience to the minimum,” he said.

by edward rajendra

PETALING JAYA: Some Klang Valley residents will not experience dry taps at any point during the scheduled water disruption during the 13-hour maintenance work Tuesday at the Selangor River Phase 2 water treatment plant (SSP2) by Puncak Niaga Sdn Bhd if they live close to the reservoirs or are in low-lying areas.

“There are ‘affected’ users who may not experience any disruption at all,” Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) corporate communications and public affairs assistant general manager Priscilla Alfred said.
