How they met
“Robert and I met at Sheffield Hallam University, on the day of the interviews to study physiotherapy,” explains Jenny. “Robert asked me for directions, however, apparently I wasn’t very helpful! We were both successful at our interviews, and went on to study on the same course for three years,” she adds.
The proposal
“Robert proposed in the grounds of the Chatsworth Estate in Derbyshire,” remembers Jenny. “Growing up nearby, Chatsworth has always been my favourite place, filled with happy childhood memories. Robert had surprised me with ‘treat week’ in which he gave me a different present each day; from flowers, a magazine and bubble bath to vouchers for a local spa.

“On the final day he had organised a fantastic picnic, and when I opened the picnic basket there was a box of beautifully wrapped handmade chocolates. Being a chocoholic I asked if we could have one of these first! To my surprise when I opened the box there was a Haribo jelly ring right in the centre among the chocolates, and as I opened the box, Robert got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! Also in the picnic basket was another treat wrapped up, a European guide book. Robert’s final surprise was that he’d organised a trip to Rome over the August Bank Holiday and had put the tickets in the basket, too!” beams Jenny.
The bride’s outfit
Beautiful bride Jenny let her dress do the talking – and who can blame her when it’s just so pretty! “I ended up falling in love with the first dress I tried on,” smiles Jenny. “It was an Augusta Jones design named ‘Ali’. I instantly knew it was ‘the one’ when I wanted to keep on wearing it forever!”
The groom’s outfit
Robert picked his own suit out from Gracie Bleu in Matlock – but was happy to colour match the grey and dusky pink ties to match the bridesmaids. “I thought he looked so lovely,” smiles Jenny. “He looked very relaxed, and I could see him smiling as I walked down the aisle. As I arrived to meet him in the church he leant over and whispered ‘you’re beautiful’,” she adds.
The bridesmaids
Jenny’s two best girls look so alluring in their gun-metal grey dresses, which were accessorised with a dusky pink sash. They were bought from Blushes bridal studio in Sheffield, and worn with Rainbow Club shoes, dyed to match.
The ceremony
Jenny walked down the aisle with her father, and the couple then had a traditional Church of England service – something that was important to them both. “We had two readings,” she explains. “The first from Corinthians, and the other a beautiful poem called The One.”
The flowers
“The amazing Catherine Greatorex at Petails, Sheffield, created all our wedding flowers,” says Jenny. “We wanted peonies and roses to give it a classic, English feel, and she created flowers more beautiful than I ever imagined!”
The reception
Following the emotional church ceremony, guests moved on to Hassop Hall for the evening’s festivities. Jenny and Robert shared their day with 100 guests, and then 50 more joined for the party.
The details
Jenny decided on an English wedding theme with pretty vintage touches. “We spent a lot of time at antique shops and local markets sourcing vintage tea pots and china crockery to hold all the flower displays,” she explains. “I then gave these away as mementoes to friends and family as they left the wedding. All the other decorations, favours and place name cards were handmade by me, in the lead up to the wedding.”
The cake
“I enjoyed making our wedding cake myself,” beams Jenny. “I created a traditional three-tier fruit cake, topped with white icing and small edible pearls, with fresh flowers on top. This was one of my favourite things about planning our wedding.”
The favours
“Our favours were very traditional – the women were given bomboniere, while the men had a trio of miniature chocolates, all tied up with grey and pink ribbon to match the colours of our day,” explains Jenny.
The honeymoon
Following a minimoon to North Yorkshire, the couple visited Canada for their first holiday abroad as a married couple.
