Just engaged? Take note of the biggest bridal beauty and wedding fashion trends about to set the wedding world alight as we go into 2014…

Sassi Holford

A is for arm candy

Apart from your h2b, the best thing to have on your arm is a statement cuff bracelet! Ideal if you have an understated wedding dress that needs jazzing up. However, you should avoid this trend if your dress is heavily embellished.

B is for birdcage veils

Traditional cathedral-length veils are still a great option, but cropped birdcage veils are becoming the most popular choice for brides. Covering only the face with a statement clip, slide or comb holding the piece together, they’re perfect for brides that want to create a timeless look.

C is for crystal lace

One of the biggest trends on the catwalk for 2014 is crystal embellished lace. Glamming up this year’s vintage lace trend, crystal lace embellishments will give your gown the wow factor without being too overpowering. Whether you love princess style or old-fashioned chic, you will swoon over the new wedding dress collections for 2014.

Suzanne Neville

D is for daring lips

One sure-fire way to turn your look from every day to A-list is to be daring with your lip colour. Bright reds, coral tones and perfect pinks will make your glamorous pout stand out in your photos. Keep it sexy, but sophisticated!

E is for effortless hair

Tight updos are becoming a thing of the past. Loose half-up, half-down dos and messy buns are set to be the most popular styles, with wavy locks complete with a headband or hair flowers being the best choice for boho brides. Mermaid waves are also going to be big for brides getting married abroad.

F is for floral prints

Floral embellishments have always been en vogue, but floral prints for bridesmaids will be a new option instead of block colours as we go into 2014.

Eliza Jane Howell

G is for Gatsby glamour

The silver screen has won our hearts, and Great Gatsby fever is just about everywhere right now! The trend doesn’t seem to be stopping any time soon, with 1920’s dresses becoming the biggest fashion trend. Floaty silk fabrics, glamorous forehead bands and Art Deco prints will sell out, fast.

H is for heirloom touches

DIY brides will love embellishing their outfits, stationery, flowers and more with personal touches. From an heirloom brooch pinned to your bouquet, to a locket of your loved ones entwined in your sash, the possibilities are endless. Some brides will take it one step further and get an heirloom piece of jewellery adapted, to create a larger statement hair accessory.

I is for intricate backs

Designers have been turning their attention to the back of their gowns, creating new dresses that look gorgeous at every angle. Many designs will look simple from the front then dazzle from behind. Specialists at this are Enzoani, Sassi Holford and Lillian West.

J is for jet black eyes

Tame make-up simply won’t stand out in your wedding photographs, but slightly heavier, jet black lashes will make your eyes wow. Invest in a good quality mascara with the help of a professional to create a chic look. And don’t forget false eye lashes – something every newlywed swears by!

K is for knee length

You’ve worked hard on your bridal bod, so why not show it off in a shorter dress? Get your pins out in a knee-length design, with a full tulle skirt. Stick to satin and taffeta to ensure your dress still looks bridal, and accessorise with sparkly details and a veil.

L is for layers

From ruffled skirts to sheer overlays, layers will be a big trend next year. You’ll see more sheer and lacy high necklines revealing a satin sweetheart neckline underneath. For skirts, many dresses will have a split overskirt, and some designers will be brave and have different coloured layers!

Kelsey Rose

M is for mix and match bridesmaids

What do you do when two bridesmaids suit one colour and the others suit another? Mix them up! Brides will break tradition and mix their maids, either choosing the same colour but in different shades for each girl, or going all out with a different palette per dress. We love the coloured lace dresses at Kelsey Rose.

N is for nude lingerie

Looking for a confidence boost on the big day? Having the perfect underwear could give you the added support you need. Ditching traditional matching ivory sets, brides will choose a nude corset or body suit under their gown, letting their new-found bridal confidence shine through.

O is for oversized accessories

From big bows to chunky pearls, brides are becoming more daring when it comes to their accessories. Over-sized hair accessories look particularly great in blonde ‘dos, which can sometimes struggle to make details stand out. Try Corrine Smith and Jo Barnes.

Justin Alexander

P is for peplum

Pretty peplum bodices are all over the bridal catwalks for 2014. These figure-flattering frills will be a firm favourite with fashion-forward brides who want to create that hourglass silhouette.

Q is for quilted clutches

Say goodbye to hard case clutch bags – quilted designs are the new must-haves to hold your big-day essentials.

R is for removable details

Switch your look from day to night by having removable details on your outfit. Brides will choose capes, jackets and gloves, which they will then remove for the evening revealing a slinky figure to dance the night away.

S is for slinky silk

Skimming over your curves, slinky dresses will be popular for every season. Cowl necklines and halternecks work particularly well with this lightweight fabric. Side parted, retro waves will be the perfect hairstyle to complete the look.

Phase Eight

T is for two dresses

After being in your gown all day, you may want to slip into something more comfortable before a night of dancing. Changing dress for the evening isn’t just for celebrities. You could also try the high street for a second dress.

U is for underskirts

Brides will still try to emulate Kate Middleton’s wedding style with the help of a full underskirt. If you want an alternative look, try a few coloured  layers – a top trend for 2014.

V is for vibrant shoes

Last year, brides started wearing brightly-coloured shoes to turn heads, but the new trend is much bolder! Vibrant, fun, decorated shoes will be en vogue. Try Irregular Choice or Beautiful Moment’s designs.

W is for wedding wellies

You can be the bride who is prepared for anything, and make a stylish statement at the same time! Break away from tradition by wearing wedding wellies under your dress.

Mark Lesley Bride

X is for xtra cover

You may have the sunny wedding that you always dreamed of, but it’s always a good idea to have a back-up plan in case of bad weather. Brides will be tempted by cool coverups to keep the bad weather at bay.

Y is for yellow gold

2014 brides will start to turn away from silver jewellery and accessories, and will instead be reaching out for more traditional yellow gold. Gold works particularly well in autumn and winter weddings, but teamed with ivory, pink or turquoise, it can look fab in every season.

Z is for zero fear

If there’s one time you can have the confidence to be yourself, it’s your wedding day! Don’t be scared to try something that hasn’t been seen in wedding history before. Brides will want their guests to remember all the personal details they created.
