The Wedding Ideas team took a front row seat at the latest White Gallery and London Bridal Shows to bring you a sneak peek at the hottest wedding dress trends for 2015 – and you’re in for a treat!
There were a few key trends coming through from almost every designer at this spring’s shows– the use of colour, namely blush and gold; floral details, on fabrics and as actual 3D details on dresses; beautiful backs, either in very deep V-shapes or keyhole designs; and finally sparkle, from subtle touches to dresses dripping with embellishments. 2015 is definitely your time to shine! The first of the florals we saw were from by Alan Hannah. The beautifully handpainted designs are perfect for a summer wedding or a celebration abroad. Here we also saw high necks and long sleeves – a welcome alternative to classic strapless designs.
French dress designers Cymbeline showed one of our favourite back designs – this romantic keyhole shape was echoed among many designers for 2015.
Staying with bright florals, the finalé of Ian Stuart’s amazing catwalk show was this gorgeous gown, covered in tiny blue and pink blooms scattered over the metallic gold embellishments. This Lady Luxe collection for 2015 included lots of sparkle and slimline silhouette, somewhat of a departure for the designer but the gowns were still unmistakably ‘Ian’ nevertheless. Inspired by Elizabethan, Art Deco and Bohemian influences, the collection also boasted larger-than-life, voluminous skirts – here’s one of our favourites…
Madeline Isaac James launched her new fresh and exciting new collection Maddy, designed with the help of help daughter. Featuring bright blooms on belts and playful, shorter designs, this collection is full of 50s-inspired fun.
There was an unapologetically romantic collection from newlywed Charlotte Balbier, who couldn’t wait to show us her own wedding dress – the Charlotte, of course – which was a dazzling A-line design with sparkly jewels running down the bodice and right down to the bottom of the train.
Gold detailing even made it onto bridal shoes at Freya Rose, while Rachel Simpson teamed up with dance shoe specialists Freed of London to bring brides a new collection of super comfortable wedding shoes that will keep them dancing all night! Featuring a little more sparkle, they still maintain the elegant Rachel Simpson look. And retro brides will love Rachel’s 50s-inspired design with matching clutch – so cute. Or how about something blue?
For full-on drama was hard to beat Terry Fox – Steam Punk brides, this one’s for you! Oversized blooms on the skirt and the amazing bodice detail is perfect if you want to stand out from the crowd!
Over at the London Bridal Show, we caught up with British designers Ellis who were all over the colour trend with a selection of blush and gold gowns – so flattering for all skin tones. They were also showing their beautiful and budget-friendly White by Kelsey Rose bridal collection where dresses start from around £650.
Fans of the vintage 20s look will love the new designs from Mark Lesley and Donna Salado. Beautifully intricate beading was teamed with flattering cap sleeves for an elegant bridal look. Floral fabrics were also hot news here, as well as delicate laces and dramatic backs.
We also caught up with the team from Benjamin Roberts to see their latest collection, Karen George. Stylistically different to the main Benjamin Roberts collection it features more contemporary designs for brides who want to stand out from the crowd.
Elsewhere, London-based designers Belle and Bunty launched a beautiful bridesmaid collection to complement their oh-so-chic bridal gowns. Fusing contemporary details with their signature vintage look, our favourite designs in the collection teamed bright fuchsia dresses with ruby red sashes – a colourful clash that would work brilliantly for summer bridesmaids.
Justin Alexander showed their collection for 2015 to excited stockists at the Waldorf Hotel. The grand ballroom played host to the gorgeous gowns, boasting silhouettes to suit every shape and ceremony.
Suzanne Neville wowed the crowds with her independent catwalk show at the Tower of London. The Novello collection was inspired by British eccentricity in theatre and costume – after all the bride is the star of her own show on the big day! Modern clean lines work in harmony with clever construction – another stunning collection from this top UK talent.
