Gemstone Engagement Rings

When we first put out the call for the hive to participate in this Real E-Rings series, we were surprised about the number of bees with gemstone engagement rings. We’ve already featured sapphires, and today, we’re showcasing those other beautiful gems right here on the blog.

For those playing catch-up, we launched a set of ring surveys, starting with 15 different styles of engagement rings (you can find them here and at the bottom of this post, as well as on the Boards as a stickied post). All you do is fill out the survey corresponding to your ring style (round diamond, moissanite, sapphire, etc.), which will prompt you to upload your ring photo to the Weddingbee Gallery, and then once at least 10 people with that style of ring have filled out the survey, it will become a post on the Weddingbee blog!

The posts will continuously be updated to reflect new ring submissions, and eventually we hope they will be an amazing repository of REAL engagement rings to inspire bees for years to come.

Note: If you’ve filled out the survey but haven’t yet submitted a photo, it’s not too late to be included in this post! Simply email your photo along with your Weddingbee username and ring style category to mouse (at) weddingbee (dot) com, and we’ll add it to the post in a subsequent update!

freckledfrida‘s halo of pavé-set diamonds surrounding a round brilliant aquamarine in a white gold band with French pavé diamond accents

Why did you or your FI choose this ring? I have always loved aquamarines, and thought that the sparkle of a diamond halo would make the stone a perfect centerpiece for an engagement ring.

Tali.Skye30‘s argentium silver lab-created bezel set emerald engagement ring

Why did you or your FI choose this ring? His birthstone is emerald, and I never wanted something that was to standard. He let me choose exactly what I wanted.

Where did you purchase your ring? local jeweler

Metal: argentium silver

isilme‘s sterling silver aquamarine solitaire ring

Why did you or your FI choose this ring? In the remake of the movie The Time Machine, the protagonist proposes with his lady’s birthstone, a moonstone. Since then, I knew I wanted my birthstone instead of a diamond. It means more to me as the first ring I ever owned was a small child’s aquamarine ring from my grandfather, it was less pricey, and there are no ethics issues with aquamarines.

medaisies‘s round ruby ring with pave halo of round diamonds around and on a platinum band

Why did you or your FI choose this ring? I wanted something different and completely me, and my fiance was kind (and smart) enough to let me pick it out myself! It was so fun going out with my mom and choosing the ring that made my heart flutter.

snowlane‘s London blue cushion cut topaz ring in a white gold setting

Why did you or your FI choose this ring? I’m not a big fan of diamonds, so I wanted something a little less traditional. My fiance’s birthstone is topaz, and I’ve always loved the color blue. I found this ring on Etsy made by a jeweler near our home.

Carat size: 3 equivalent

Price: < $1,000

fridakahloisourcat‘s rose gold halo ring with oval blue topaz center stone and two “surprise” blue topaz stones, and white and blue diamond accents

Why did you or your FI choose this ring? We had been shopping for a more “traditional” white center stone (mainly moissy) and white gold rings, but with a vintage style. We were planning on going the custom route because we couldn’t find a ring that was quite right, as well as because my finger size is around 3.75–4.0. Custom was looking pretty pricey, and one day I stumbled across this ring while scouring the Helzberg site after a trip to their store to look at rings. This ring was not marketed as an e-ring, but I absolutely fell in love with it and couldn’t stop looking at it. It had a beautiful vintage vibe and a great price compared to what we had been looking at. Unfortunately, they could only order the ring down to a size 5, but they put a horseshoe spring in so it would fit, and it does! During cold winter days if my fingers shrink I can also take it off and bend the spring slightly inward and it will adjust the fit wonderfully.

OpalBride‘s vintage oval opal halo diamond ring

Why did you or your FI choose this ring? Opal is my birthstone, and I’ve always loved its gorgeous flecks of color that change with the light. I’m a non-traditional kinda gal, and I also like how opals are more economical—I’ve never been one to wear expensive jewelry!

SilveryBee‘s emerald cut aquamarine and diamond halo ring with white gold eternity band

Why did you or your FI choose this ring? I’ve always been drawn to the uniqueness of blue engagement rings. I’ve never been too drawn to diamonds, but preferred to wear the colorful antique emeralds and amethysts I’d been passed down through my family. I would drag my fiance from shop window to shop window to peer in at the antique jewelry in Brighton Laines and Arundel. In January I peered into the window of a little jewelers in my town, and it took my breath away. I had seen thousands of rings, but this was something special. My fiance watched me glance in that window almost every day for a month. After a month, he suggested we go look in the window, but instead of stopping to stare through the glass he grabbed my hand and walked me straight into the shop. He bought it then and there and said there was never going to be a more perfect ring for me.

Perfpersnickety‘s cushion cut gemstone ring with split shank channel in a four prong rose gold setting

Why did you or your FI choose this ring? I chose it because I didn’t want a straight band but a small bit of flare, and I didn’t want a traditional diamond but something that was unfamiliar to anyone else. That is what I got.

Metal: rose gold

Price: $1,001–$3,000

bunniebee‘s aquamarine and diamond pave split shank in 14 karat white gold

Why did you or your FI choose this ring? I picked this ring out myself, as my fiance wanted to make sure I got something I loved. I surprised myself with this ring. It originally was not what I wanted, but I absolutely adore it. I realized I didn’t want a traditional diamond center stone, and opted for an aquamarine instead. I love aquamarine stones, and it happens to be my grandfather’s birthstone. I am very close with my grandfather; he raised me for most of my life. I will always be keeping him close to me with this ring. Even with the aquamarine, I didn’t want just a plain solitaire, so I decided to go for a pave band. I’m glad I did; it’s absolutely stunning. I thought the split shank was unique and not something I had seen frequently before, so that design appealed to me as well.

LibertyBelle88‘s custom three stone cabachon white topaz, pear opal, and moonstone ring in an asymmetrical setting

Why did you or your FI choose this ring? This is a custom ring designed by both me and my FI. He selected the stones, and I chose the setting. Overall we both wanted something inspired by space as not only am I a huge sci-fi enthusiast but one of our first dates was at London’s Greenwich Observatory! Hence the moonstone, moon-like opal and star-like topaz.

allisonsarahcox‘s cushion cut garnet with accent diamonds set in white gold

Why did you or your FI choose this ring? The stone was purchased by my grandparents while in Kenya 25 years ago right before my grandfather’s death. My preference was to not spend a ton on a ring (it’s just a ring—it’s the sentiment behind it that counts).

DevinRenae‘s 12x10mm Australian black opal triplet in a sterling silver filigree setting

Why did you or your FI choose this ring? As a geologist, I knew I wanted something unique, and I was in no way interested in us paying for a diamond. I’ve always loved opal rings, and I absolutely wanted an interesting setting. FI and I had narrowed it down to a few rings/Etsy shops we liked, and I let him go from there. He made a great choice!

Where did you purchase your ring? AmyKJewels on Etsy

Color: black opal

Metal: sterling silver

Price: < $1,000

elephantear‘s round Amora gem with a round petite halo and pave shank in white gold

Why did you or your FI choose this ring? He calls me his angel, so it seemed fitting that my ring had a halo. He liked me so much, he put a ring on it, and he liked the center stone so much that he put a ring on that too! We are big astronomy nerds, and to us, my e-ring looks like Saturn on my finger.

Lovelyruby‘s round ruby white gold ring with floral diamond accents

Why did you or your FI choose this ring? I fell in love with this setting a year ago on Pinterest. We wanted something unique to go in it, but still durable. Because the setting is floral, we liked the idea of a ruby because it’s like a rose in the center.
