Time is flying. Twelve months ago, Mr. W was on one knee asking me to be his wife, and in four months, I’m marrying one of my oldest friends. When I think about our actual wedding day, I get excited, y’all. The butterflies in my stomach start fluttering at an increasing speed. The butterflies are those that are good, of course, with a small bit of anxiousness and a SLIGHT touch of overwhelmed-ness. Being the primary decision maker for such an important day that I will be sharing with so many people gets me all worked up inside. I’m going through all types of weird emotions that, luckily, I’ve heard from other soon-to-be brides are normal. Mr. W, on the other hand, thinks I’m a psycho sometimes.

I find myself stressing over “What if someone doesn’t like the linens I chose for the reception?” or “What if people don’t love our invitations?” Sometimes Mr. W stops me mid sentence and says “Who cares! It’s not about them, it’s about us.” (Thank goodness for him.) Unfortunately, this has slowly transformed me into becoming one of those brides that doesn’t get too caught up in details, but sometimes I feel like it’s a bad thing. One thing that does keep me motivated is thinking about my grandparents who were married 57 years ago, November 16th, 1957, to be exact. They were married in my grandfather’s best friend’s living room with about 12 people there. They had a Khloe and Lamar type courtship, except their marriage went on to last 56 years. (That’s the motivation!)

Now I tell you this because we are technically three-quarters through our engagement and that much closer to saying “I do.” Just like most newly engaged ladies, I joined The Knot a couple of days after we became engaged. Every month they send me these checklists that are created by some person that I want to slap (only because I never have the stuff done they recommend). I think I am just now at the six month list for completing tasks. There are some that I actually JUST completed that were on month one also. That being finally getting my ring appraised and insured.

The good news is I feel like I have a bulk of the pertinent things done. I chose a reception venue, cried my way through finding a dress, asked my FIL to marry us, got an awesome photographer, and found a great company handling the reception decor. It takes a WHOLE LOT more than just that stuff to make this day.

There are details on TOP of details, on TOP OF DETAILS, that I have yet to even look at along with some major things I haven’t done yet. Unfortunately, that list is a tad longer than what I would like. Here are a couple of tasks that I NEED to get done either before Christmas or immediately after:

Find a cake baker

Register for gifts

Order bridesmaids’ and our parents’ gifts

Book transportation for the bridal party and out of town guests

Wedding programs

Food tasting

Don’t go crazy

Find a seamstress for my dress

The. List. Goes. On. and my buddies over at The Knot aren’t making me feel any better.

I know, I know. Some of you are sitting there reading these and shaking your head like what the heck is that girl doing? I am too. The list seems to keep growing. I feel like I’m a college freshman again. You know, where you don’t have Mom and Dad to make sure you’re awake for school, you don’t really have anyone to tell you when to study and go to class…and then it’s going to hit me on the proverbial week of finals and I will have to tell myself:

I’m hoping that once the new year comes around and the bulk of our payments to vendors are due, I will get the fire lit under my arse, and get to planning at full speed. It’s also time to get going on my list of DIY projects that I WILL get done (positive mantras only). Is anyone else stressing over not doing things on a timely manner?
