One of its services called Wildfinder is great at providing complete database for the world’s terrestrial amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals, by terrestrial ecoregion. Here, you can find detailed descriptions about species and places, along with their threats. Also, you can access their projects and work within a click only. WWF Wildfinder could be a great resource, as it helps you find where wildlife lives globally. Widlfinder makes searching really easy using the map interface. It informs you about everything clearly on the map, just scroll! It allows you to search by species to find out where they live; or search by place to see the species that live in that particular area directly on the map. This is really easy and simple to use… but highly informative.

Get everything important that you wanna know about your favorite specie like information about their home ecoregion, photos of the species in the wild along with status whether they currently are in danger or not. On finding animal on the map, you can open a tab of information about its habitat, whether or not its population is threatened, along with picture viewing of the animal.

At present, WildFinder includes information about four large classes like amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. It contains more than 26,000 records of presence and absence data for amphibian, bird, mammal, and reptile species found within each of world’s 825 terrestrial ecoregions. Species and their distributions information comes from published sources, like field guides and species accounts, also from unpublished sources like compiled museum records or directly from experts. Today’s advance science constantly searches out new information about the world around us, so as soon as new data on these and other class become available, it will be updated in no time on WildFinder.

Make your visit at worldwildlife.org/pages/wildfinder; however you won’t find the required map page directly at this link address. At first, there is only information and guidance about the tool. See at the bottom, there are two link tabs: Search by Place and Search by specie. Just click any of them and… go on.

From the Map Gallery page, just click on the any place, instantly, a box is there asking to select ecoregion. That’s really quick! For selection, you will be taken to the new opened tab.

Within a click, you can get the complete information about the place you selected/clicked, including Ecocode, Realm and Biome. Even, you can explore more knowledge about the location, clicking on Story & photo tab given at the bottom line. This lets you know size, conservation status along with brief introduction of that particular place. Still want more knowledge about the selected place; More Details tab is also given that will take you on the WWF for A to Z details. Here, you can share this knowledge with other wildlife lovers, your friends using direct sharing options for Facebook and Twitter. Meantime, you are allowed to give your honest feedback. Photo gallery is also available for more clear view.

By the way, you will also find the drop down list with available species in that particular place. Best thing about the list is that it holds names of the species in two ways: Common and Scientific. That means not only students, scientists, researchers as well as common people can simply use this feature.

Once you pick one from given specie selection, you will get information like Class, Order, Family, Endemic, Threat status along with its photo. If you want to explore other ecoregions for this specie, then you can do with a click only. The same displayed list can be exported to HTML, EXCEL, and DELIMITED FILE. Really helpful! Here, you also get more info tab with direct link of Encyclopedia of Life and International Union for Conservation of Nature. Share option is also provided here for direct sharing. Also, you will get Donate tab.

On the map, you will also get Advance search option at topside for the quicker search. There are 5 direct options to pick your required one – Class (4), Order (69), Family (445), Genus and most importantly Threat status. Other useful tabs like Transparency, Basemaps (with Topo, Satellite, Streets and Reliefs), Ecoregion Themes, and Overview map are given to make easy map scrolling. Full screen and the best one Print tab are also available that allows you direct print out for the displayed part of the map.

Little about WWF:

The first thing we notice on the welcome page of the site is Panda symbol; actually in the same year of the establishment of WWF (1961), a panda named Chi Chi was transferred from the Beijing Zoo to the London Zoo and it is the only giant panda residing in the Western world at that time, having physical features and status as an endangered species. That’s how, panda is considered to be strong recognizable symbol of the organization.

For the interface, you can say that all important topics are available within a click. On the top menu bar, you will get 4 basic tabs – Species, Places, Threats, and Our work.

Species section is here to get you direct search for the endangered species like Giant Pandas, Tigers, Elephants, Gorillas, Sea turtles, Polar Bears, Rhinos, and Whales. If anyone of them is your favorite, then you may glad to know that other useful details like Overview (for complete introduction), Why They Matter (mentioning their crucial role in forests), Threats (reason for why), What WWF is Doing (WWF efforts), How Can you Help (different ways to help them), and Adopt.

Enjoy your knowledge here, as it also provides feature like Animal Trivia Games, wherein you can play some IQ sort of games.
