There is good news for our disabled veterans who come back from war and have in the past, had difficulty getting their disability payments in a timely manner.

The Social Security disability benefits for veterans with a rating of 100 percent Permanent and Total disability (P&T) will soon have their applications processed faster, the Social Security Administration announced Wednesday.

“Social Security will treat these veterans’ applications as high priority and issue expedited decisions, similar to the way the agency currently handles disability claims from Wounded Warriors,” the organization said in a press release.

And it isn’t years in the making; the plan is for the expedited process to begin mid-March of this year.

“Our veterans have sacrificed so much for our country and it is only right that we ensure they have timely access to the disability benefits they may be eligible for and deserve,” Acting Commissioner of Social Security Carolyn Colvin said in the news release.

In order for veterans to receive this expedited claim benefit, they must inform Social Security that they have a 100 percent P&T compensation rating and show proof of this rating with their VA Notification Letter.

The VA rating only expedites Social Security disability claims processing and does not guarantee an approval for Social Security disability benefits. These veterans must still meet the strict eligibility requirements for a disability allowance.
