The Greenwich Police department said that the name of the 16-year-old girl killed and the other 16-year-old girl in the hospital after yesterday’s boating accident will be released on Thursday by noon.

Four 16-year-old girls were boating Wednesday on the Long Island Sound off Greenwich Point Park. The girls, who are all students at Greenwich High School, were tubing. Two in the boat, two more behind getting towed on an inflatable raft. Police said that’s when suddenly something went wrong.

“At some point the girls on the tube somehow or another became entangled in the propeller of the outboard engine of the vessel that was towing them,” said Lt. Kraig Gray of the Greenwich PD.

One teen was killed instantly, the other dealing with serious wounds to her legs and is being treated at Stamford Hospital.

The investigation is ongoing and police said they are looking into how exactly the girls ended up in the water and hitting that propeller.
