Saturday Low pressure over the western Mediterranean brings heavy rain to south-eastern Spain, the Balearics and Sardinia. Gale force winds around coasts. Some snow for the mountains. Rain also affects Sicily and southern Italy. Meanwhile, much of central & north-western Spain and Portugal will be dry with sunshine, temperatures 10 to 13C. Some sunshine for Greece and Turkey, but cool, around 11C for the Greek islands. Risk of a shower for Cyprus. High pressure centred over eastern Europe brings widespread dry but cold conditions across central Europe, widely near or below freezing all day. Hard frost and some freezing fog. Plenty of crisp winter sunshine for France, the Low Countries, Alps and northern Italy. Cloudy for northern Germany, Poland and Ukraine. Relatively mild for southern Scandinavia at 3 to 6C. Patchy rain and snow spreads north across Norway and Sweden. Bright, cold and breezy in Finland and the Baltic states.

Sunday The western Mediterranean remains very unsettled, with areas of heavy affecting the eastern coast of Spain, southern France and western Italy, plus the islands from Sicily to the Balearics. Some snow inland for central Italy. Elsewhere across Spain and Portugal it will be largely dry, although a risk of a shower in the far south-west. High pressure over eastern Europe maintains dry, sunny but very cold weather for many central countries, extending from eastern France across the Alps and southern Germany to the Balkans, Romania and Ukraine. Overnight temperatures are likely to drop below -10C in some areas, and daytime values will stay below freezing. A cool easterly breeze for Greece . A south-westerly breeze affects the Baltic, bringing comparatively mild air and a little drizzly rain. Persistent rain or snow for northern Norway.
