Wednesday High pressure remains dominant on Wednesday with light winds across the UK and Ireland. Quite cloudy in central and south-eastern England, with damp and drizzly conditions in the south-east in the morning and early afternoon. Brighter with some sunny spells in south-west England and Wales, also southern Ireland. Sunny spells in north-east England and eastern Scotland too. Thicker cloud in the north and north-west of Scotland may produce some drizzly rain at times along with a stronger westerly breeze. Feeling milder for all, highs 8 to 11C.

Wednesday night Most places are dry overnight. Just a spot of drizzle possible in the south-east. A frost possible in Highland Scotland as skies clear, with lows close to freezing. Some frost and fog in the south of Ireland and the south-west of England and Wales where skies are clearer. Staying mostly cloudy elsewhere with temperatures remaining above freezing with lows 2 to 6C.

Thursday A fairly cloudy but mostly dry day on Thursday with light winds. Thicker cloud for the Midlands, southern and eastern England may produce some patchy drizzle, particularly around Channel coasts again. Broken cloud and some sunny spells for the south-west of the UK and Ireland, with brighter spells in the north-east of Scotland and England too. An approaching warm front brings more cloud for Scotland with patchy rain in the west during the afternoon, plus an increasing westerly breeze. Highs 7 to 10C.

Friday Outbreaks of rain spread south across Scotland and northern England during the early hours of Friday, becoming persistent in western regions, and possibly wintry over the tops of the Highlands and Pennines. A fragmenting band of rain spreads south through the morning, clearing the south of England during the afternoon. Squally showers continue to feed onto north-western facing coasts and hills of Scotland, north-west England and north Wales. Eastern coasts may also see showers through the afternoon, whilst many inland regions become drier with sunny spells. Brisk north-westerly winds throughout the day, reaching gale force in northern and north-eastern Scotland by the afternoon. Highs 7 to 9C in the south, but feeling colder in the north at 4 to 6C.
