Cloudy with periods of light rain and showers in the south and east High pressure to the north of the British Isles will bring chilly easterly winds during the later part of this week. Best conditions in the north and north-west, with cloud and patchy rain threatening the south and east. Confidence becomes low by the weekend, although indications favour cool and unsettled conditions to start April.

For the weather for the next few days click here Wednesday 26/03/14 The risk of ice overnight where skies clear following rain on Tuesday. A chilly north-easterly wind affects the UK. An area of low pressure in the North Sea may spread showers into eastern counties of England during the day, perhaps merging into persistent light rain later. Dry with sunshine in Ireland, west Wales, Scotland and north-west England. Clouding over for the Midlands, with the risk of patchy rain by late afternoon in the eastern Midlands. Feeling cold on the east coast at 6 or 7C, with a considerable wind chill. Further west expect highs of 8 to 11C.

Thursday 27/03/14 The risk of some icy patches first thing. Thursday will feel chilly again with an easterly wind. Central and eastern areas may see persistent low cloud and drizzle, with a few showers in southern England. Brighter skies and likely to stay dry in western regions of Wales and Scotland. A little light rain in eastern Ireland, dry and bright further west. Again feeling cold on the east coast, temperatures 6 to 11C, highest in the west.

Friday 28/03/14 High pressure centred north of the British Isles on Friday maintains a chilly easterly breeze. Driest and brightest in the north and west, with cloud and patchy light rain and drizzle possible on eastern coasts. Highs 6 to 11C, highest again towards the west.

Saturday 29/03/14 Confidence is low by the weekend, but high pressure is likely to remain to the north. Patchy rain may affect southern Britain, and still cool in the east. Perhaps less cold than previous days. Best dry and bright conditions in north-west England and western Scotland. Highs 7 to 11C. Sunday 30/03/14 Low pressure to the south-west may threaten to push rain into Devon and Cornwall, otherwise it should be dry, again with best sunshine towards the north-west. Highs 7 to 12C. Monday 31/03/14 Rain may become more extensive over Ireland and the south-west, perhaps drier to the north and east, although confidence of detail is low. Highs 8 to 13C.
