This year Epcot added new food booths to the Holidays Around the World activities. Holiday themed treats are available at specialty booths and shops around the World Showcase. Similar to the Food and Wine Festival, a free souvenir Holiday Passport lists the available snacks. Guests can collect stamps at each location listed in the passports. The special Holidays Around the World park map lists locations for each featured snack.
I only had one evening to try as many new items as possible. I did not try any of the adult beverages. Also, most food items are sweets. Luckily, I had two trusted helper elves willing to devour any remaining crumbs of holiday goodness after I tasted “for research.”
Here are some of the new holiday treats!
Promenade Refreshments and Canada
PROMENADE REFRESHMENTS: Booth
Turkey Waffle (stuffing batter waffle, turkey, gravy, cranberry relish)
Turkey Waffle
This was a delicious, savory, hearty sandwich. I especially liked the thin waffle “bread” part that tasted like stuffing!
Sweet Potato Casserole Waffle (sweet potato batter, toasted pecans, marshmallows and caramel sauce)
Holiday Twinings Teas
Flavored Hot Chocolates
Flavored Hot Ciders
CANADA: Popcorn Cart
Pecan Maple Bark
Canada Pecan Maple Bark
This was an amazing, lightly-salted, chocolate-coated, crunchy toffee. It was in a small bag with enough pieces to share and save some for later. The only disappointing thing about this was that when I looked at the ingredients… it has NO maple! It did not taste like maple either. Delicious, but no maple. Tiny oversight with the name? oops.
United Kingdom and France
UNITED KINGDOM: UK Beer Cart
Hot Applejack Cider (mulled cider with whiskey)
FRANCE: Les Halles & L’Artisan des Glaces
Buche de Noel au Chocolate (chocolate christmas log pastry)
Gingerbread Ice Cream
Morocco and Japan
MOROCCO: Tangierine Cafe
Hot Mint Tea
This has a very mild mint flavor and is cozy and warm on a chilly evening. Not overpowering at all.
JAPAN: Kabuki Cafe
Teriyaki Chicken Karaage (bite-size teriyaki chicken)
The American Adventure and Candlelight Processional Details
THE AMERICAN ADVENTURE: Sugar and Spice Booth
Gingerbread Men
The American Adventure Gingerbread Man
This is very different than the Mickey Ears gingerbread men available all over WDW. These are very mildly spiced, softer, and have chocolate candy decorations. Yummy with hot cocoa!
Chocolate Chunk Cookies
Sugar Cookies
Hot Chocolate
Apple Cider
Peppermint Bark
Sparkling Wines
Cocoa Candy Cane with peppermint schnappps
Italy and Germany
ITALY: Buona Festa Booth
Selection of festive alcoholic beverages
To the side of the booth is a display of traditional Italian holiday treats like panettone (italian fruit cake) and pizzelles.
Italy Pizzelle Cookies
These were possibly the best pizzelles I have ever eaten. Light, crisp, vanilla (not anise). Enough for the family to share for $3.95. On a funny note, I looked at the manufacturer info so that I can find these again. They are from a Canadian company. What Canada lacked in maple flavor for their booth, they made up for with FABULOUS pizzelles in Italy! Try them!
GERMANY: Sommerfest & Christkindlmarkt
Werther’s hot Salted Caramel Drink
Germany Werther’s Hot Salted Caramel Drink
This is nothing short of heaven in a mug. Rich, buttery, warm, Werther’s caramel. If you try one holiday treat in Epcot, BUY THIS!!! In fact, get two. We still regret sharing one. I must learn how to make this at home.
A selection of other Werther’s treats are available at the booth.
Gluhwein (hot spiced wine)
Stollen (fruit cake)
China and Norway
CHINA: Joy of Tea
Kaikouxiao (happy face fried cake)
China Happy Face Fried Cake
I expected this to be like a donut hole rolled in sesame. It was nothing like that. It was room temperature, lightly sweet, and very hard. It reminded me of a hard cookie that would go well with coffee to dunk it into. The texture is similar to biscotti. I enjoyed it and was glad it was not greasy like a donut hole.
NORWAY: Kringla Bakeri
Rice Cream
This is the same delicious rice cream dessert that is available year round in Norway.
Mexico and Stamp of Completion
MEXICO: La Cantina de San Angel
Sweet Tamale
Mexico Sweet Tamale
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this. It had a tropical fruit jam filling (guava?), a rich corn cake-like texture, and a sweet fruit glaze (strawberry?). I liked that it was served in a corn husk. It was very rich. We shared this. It was very filling.
PORT OF ENTRY AND DISNEY TRADERS: Completion Stamp
Don’t forget to stop and get your final stamp for your book!
Some items are available for a snack credit from the Disney Dining Plan. Look for the snack credit symbols on price lists at each location. Be sure to pick-up a Holiday Passport during your holiday trip and try out some of the yummy treats.
Accessibility: All of the food locations are accessible. Some of the booths have roped-off lines. They can be adjusted if needed. If you find that an area is too tight, ask a cast member at the location for assistance on purchasing your items.
You can never go wrong with a tiara Santa hat! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
As the year comes to an end, I’d like to thank all of my faithful readers for your support. Many blessings to you and your families this holiday and into the new year. SEE YA IN 2014!!
