Headed to the left coast to check out the new and improved Disney California Adventure? After a full five year expansion, there have been so many magical changes (with over twenty new attractions and shows)- no doubt you have been doing your Disney homework! Much has been written about Cars Land, Buena Vista Street, World of Color and everything in-between. Despite our exhaustive research, my family recently stumbled upon several experiences that caught us by surprise. We thought we’d share so that you don’t miss out!
1. Citizens of Buena Vista Street
From the moment you step onto Buena Vista Street, you are pulled into 1920′s Hollywood; in large part due to this interactive cast of quirky characters. We were lucky enough to stumble upon Officer Blue, who was busy flirting with Molly the Messenger. (Think Disney Hollywood Studios’ Streetmosphere performers.) By all means, engage them in conversation!
Just be prepared for a chuckle. Donna told my son that his hairdo looked like her dog Lady. (Good thing I didn’t say that!!) If you’d like to learn more about these personalities and their back stories, be sure to “Like” their Facebook fan page.
2. Buena Vista Bugle
Absolutely the best free souvenir we have ever gotten at a Disney park. This four page “extra” is not only the perfect collectible, you might learn a thing or two about the latest happenings in Disney California Adventure. Pick up a copy where you board the Red Car Trolley or along Carthay Circle.
3. “Instant Concert!… Just Add Water”
Maestro Goofy conducts this new daytime fountain show on Paradise Bay. (Home to the evening World of Color program.) This playful homage to Disney short films is just three to four minutes long, but is so entertaining you simply must stop by Paradise Pier and take in the presentation. Goofy is always great medicine, and the classical music soothes the soul.
4. Cars Land Trivia
Cast Members in Cars Land are giving out terrific Cars-themed buttons, (I was told there was a collection of five), for correctly answering Cars movie trivia questions. Better watch that DVD before you go- these questions were tough!
5. Mad Arcade
I know what you’re thinking. You didn’t take your kids to Disneyland to play video games. I hear you. But this perfectly themed oasis buried in Hollywood Land is a must-do for Alice in Wonderland fans. Whether you care to partake in the Mad T Party or not, take a peek at these traditional arcade games of skill that have gone down the Rabbit Hole. How about a family challenge at “Queen of Hearts Royal Court”? Or for virtual fans, step inside Alice’s mad world and play Kinect Disneyland Adventures.
Soooo, on your way to Radiator Springs Racers, The Little Mermaid~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure or Carthay Circle Fountain, keep an eye out for these and other Disney pixie-dusted experiences. Remember to make your magic in the moment!
