DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – 10 shootings and eight homicides within two weeks in a string of gun violence in Montgomery County.  Of the eight homicides in the county for the month of August, five happened in Dayton.

William Coleman died of multiple gunshot wounds, in a shooting at the Shell Gas Station on Free Pike earlier this month.

Three people — Michael Cox, Tammy Cox, and Jasper Taylor — were shot and killed on Oxford Avenue last week.

21-year-old Tashawna Gaines was shot in killed while sitting in a car on North Gettysburg Avenue and West Third Street.

Montgomery county sheriff’s office is also investigating two homicides in Harrison Township that happened along the same street, Republic Drive, just four days apart.  Darius Jones, 19, was shot and killed on August 8th and Michael Binegar, 36, suffered the same fate on August 12th.

Gun violence also broke out in Trotwood on Tuesday afternoon killing 32-year-old D’Juan Norvell.

The victims in all eight homicides were African Americans, six men and two women.

The president of the Dayton unit of the NAACP says enough is enough.

“The NAACP is actually highly sickened you know by the senseless gun violence.  Sickened at this senseless gun violence!  And we declare that these individuals who are out here inside the community, who are causing this type of loss of life, they need to cease and desist from doing so.  We are in very critical times,” Derrick Foward said.

Arrests have been made in four of the cases, so far.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on either of these incidents to call Dayton Police at 333-COPS (2677) or Crime Stoppers at 222-STOP (7867).
