From large fund-raisers to nights for families and assemblies, the Mount Morris Parent, Teacher & Student Association continues to work to support MMCS.
Already this year the group, comprised of Mount Morris parents and teachers, have hosted two large fund-raisers – selling pizza and chocolates – that through great community support have raised more than $5,000 for the organization.
That is the main funding source for much of what the PTSA accom- plishes annually. In recent years, the PTSA began hosting monthly Family Fun Nights through the long winter months, bringing as many as 200 people into the halls of MMCS for an evening of games, crafts and face painting.
The evenings also feature healthy snacks, swimming time in the school pool and free play in the gymnasium. Each event seems to draw a larger and larger crowd, making it a success- ful partnership between the school, PTSA and community. The PTSA this year also used its funding to purchase books to be given to each elementary school child during their birth month, to host the annual children’s Christmas shop and Halloween Trunk-r-Treat, to donate money to the Junior/Senior trip, and to fund student assemblies. Currently, PTSA members are working with school officials and teachers to plan an annual “tradition” field trip for each grade that can be funded ongoing with PTSA support. Upcoming is one more Family Fun Fight – Friday, March 14, 6-8 pm. – and providing teachers with mini-grants, which are used to fund the purchase of extra classroom supplies.
Don’t forget that the PTSA collects Box Tops for Education found on many products families use daily. Those little tops snipped and sent in to teachers through school folders or dropped at places like the local library earn 10 cents per top. Last year, that equaled more than $3,000 direct support to teachers.
“We are glad that the community has given us the ability to provide this much support,” said Tammy Hainey, PTSA president. “But there is always room for spare hands to help in our efforts.”
March is the last month the PTSA can accept members in this school year. At $7, anyone can be a supporting member of the organization. Please consider joining us with any of your support.
