2 INJURED IN SATURDAY WRECK – Two people were taken to Wise Regional Health System in Decatur following an accident Saturday afternoon. Department of Public Safety Trooper Woody Gosser said the driver of a pickup was northbound on Farm Road 730 about 10 miles north of Decatur when the truck ran off the road. The driver overcorrected, causing the truck to veer across the southbound lanes and then go into a roll. The pickup crashed into an electrical pole, leaving it splintered. The names of the two injured were not available. Gosser said the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. The accident happened around 1:30 p.m.

ROAD CLOSURES – The City of Decatur will be closing West Main Street, from U.S. 81/287 Business to State Street, including side street access, from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday for street paving improvements. Residents are requested to not park on the street. Courthouse square parking on the south side of Main Street will be closed to parking. East Main Street, from U.S. 81/287 Business to Trinity Street, including side street access, will be closed 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Wednesday for street paving improvements. Residents are requested to not park on the street. Courthouse square parking on the north side of Main Street will be closed to parking. Businesses located on the Courthouse Square will operate under their normal business hours. National Night Out activities will occur as scheduled on Tuesday. RAIN TOTALS – Parts of Wise County received around a half-inch of rain Saturday. Rainfall totals include 0.6 of an inch in Greenwood, 0.55 in Alvord, 0.42 in Decatur and 0.1 in Rhome.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT – The Decatur Police Department will host National Night Out on the Decatur Square 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. The event will include free hot dogs, chips, drinks, popcorn, snow cones, jump house, child fingerprint ID and driving simulator. The Decatur Fire Department Clown show starts at 7.

BALLOON RELEASE – Wise Hope Shelter and Crisis Center will host a balloon release for domestic violence awareness 12:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Wise County Courthouse. October is domestic violence awareness month. For more information, call 940-626-4855.

COAL MINERS – Bridgeport Coal Miners Heritage Festival is 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday on Halsell Street. Events include the Battle of the Badge Wise County law enforcement donut-eating contest, a chili cook-off, college football viewing, hot dog eating contest, Pitchin’ Coals washer tournament, live entertainment from 1-5 p.m., downtown merchant specials and sidewalk sales, pet parade and contest, vendors and food booths, wine tasting and living history demonstrations by the Bridgeport Heritage Museum. The Fall Festival Kids Zone includes pumpkin painting and contest, pumpkin obstacle course, pumpkin bowling, jump houses, rock climbing wall, Pumpkin Patch pageant and a toddler area. GOLF TOURNAMENT – Decatur Junior Woman’s Club’s 22nd Annual Park Classic Golf Tournament is Saturday, Oct. 12, at Decatur Golf and Country Club. Check-in begins at 8 a.m. with a 9 a.m. tee time. Cost for the four-person scramble is $300 a team or $400 for all-inclusive, which includes poker run and mulligans. There will be a raffle, auction and multiple cash prizes, and lunch and beverages will be provided.
