RAIN ON ITS WAY – Weather forecasters are predicting with a 90 percent probability that our area will see rain showers and thunderstorms beginning tonight and continuing through at least Saturday evening and possibly into Sunday. High temperatures Saturday and Sunday are expected to be in the mid to low 80s.

RHOME PIONEER DAYS – The 27th annual Rhome Pioneer Days Parade and Festival starts at 6 tonight with vendors and live music by R. Douglass Mahaffey on the main stage in front of City Hall. The festival will continue Saturday and feature approximately 40 vendors as well as gunfighters, stagecoach rides, food, games, a bounce house, a slide and a raffle giving away an outdoor grill, 40-inch flat-screen television and more. The Boyd High School Marching Band and the Decatur Eagle Dolls will perform. Texas Motor Speedway will have NASCAR vehicles on display, and the Antique Tractor Club will also have an exhibit. Other events on the main stage include the infamous Ugly Woman Contest and karaoke following the parade, which starts at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Justin Williams and Phillip Kelley will take the main stage from 7-10 p.m. Saturday to close out the festival with a street dance.

PARADISE MAIN STREET FESTIVAL – The Paradise Main Street Festival is 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, and it will be followed by the Paradise Volunteer Fire Department Fish Fry 4 to 7 p.m. The free event will include vendor booths, a classic car show, talent show, chili cook-off, quilt show, displays and demonstrations. STEAK CHALLENGE – The third annual Chisholm Trail Steak Challenge is 10 a.m.-7 p.m. tomorrow at the Reunion grounds in Decatur. This year’s event will also include a 5K run. For more information, visit chisholmtrailsteakchallenge.com or call Stephanie at 214-683-1766.

FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL – Tonight’s local high school football games include Iowa Park at Decatur, Alvord at Gunter, Bridgeport at Princeton, Bowie at Boyd, Northwest at Keller and Gainesville State at Chico. MINI CHEER CAMP – The Decatur High School cheerleaders will host a mini camp 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, and 4-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at the DHS cafeteria. Cost is $50 and includes a T-shirt, pizza, cheering with varsity cheerleaders and Regal Eagle at the Oct. 11 football game. The camp is for ages 3 years to sixth grade. MEGA FORCE – Guinness World Record holder Steve Carrier will perform feats of strength to remind his audience of the need to persevere through obstacles to achieve success. Carrier will perform nightly, beginning Sunday, Sept. 29, though Wednesday, Oct. 2, at The Rock Church in Runaway Bay. A free dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Door prizes will also be awarded after each performance.

GED CLASSES – Registration for GED classes at Weatherford College Wise County will be 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, and Wednesday, Oct. 2. Classes begin Monday, Oct. 7, and will meet Mondays and Wednesdays each week from 6-9 p.m. Classes are free. RETIREMENT RECEPTION – A farewell for David Turnbow, city of Bridgeport director of utilities for 18 years, is 3-5 p.m. today at City Hall.

LEADERSHIP WEST WISE – Today is the last day to register for the 2013 Leadership West Wise seminar. Learn about the government, history, education, economy and future of cities in the western part of the county during presentations 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at Bridgeport Municipal Building. TAILGATE PARTY – The Chico Athletic Booster Club will hold a tailgate party tonight. Set up is at 5 p.m. on the road between the fieldhouse and the field. A prize will be given for best decorated.

HISTORIC DEDICATION – A dedication ceremony for a historical marker placed for the Santa Fe Expedition on U.S. 380 (across from the Greystone Inn in Bridgeport) is 10 a.m. today.

VETERANS YARD SALE – The Wise County Veterans Council and the North Texas Honor Guard are having their annual yard sale 8 a.m.-5 p.m. today and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at the DAV Hall, 2801 S. Farm Road 51 in Decatur.

FUNERALS – Service for Cilmon Jean “C.J.” Hubbard, 79, of Alvord is 11 a.m. Saturday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Decatur with burial at Alvord Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

GRAVESIDE service for Regina C. Burchard, 43, of Decatur is 2 p.m. Saturday at Cottonwood Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at Coker-Hawkins.

SERVICES for Gary Read, 69, and Timothy Morrow, 52, both of Bridgeport are pending at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.
