March 2, 1986 – Debra page, Caverna High School Senior was named Homecoming Queen Friday night. Caverna won over Metcalfe County 64-63.

March 3, 1986 – Glenn Flanders, Principal of Austin Tracy School has been nominated by Austin Tracy PTA for consideration as the 1986 National PTA Phoebe Apperson Hearst Outstanding Educator of the Year.

March 4, 1986 – Sybil Leamon, treasurer of Glasgow Area Hospice accepted a cash donation from Barry Stephens, Minister of Columbia Ave. Church of Christ. The money was raised by a Brother’s Keepers group within the church.

March 5, 1986 – Ruel Houchens, President of Houchens Industries, announces the intention of Houchens to open a new store in Glasgow, at the corner of the 31 E By Pass and South Green Street. (Southgate)

March 6, 1986 – Thursday night Church Bowling League results show Charles Simmons with High Individual score of 615. High team Score was by Bethel United Methodist Church with 2169. High team Single game was Betty Hopkins with a 235.

March 7, 1986 – Mrs. L W Downing, avid gardener and club member, passes away Friday morning.

March 7, 1986 – Fred Smith Motor Company has been purchased by Ben & Elmer Tractor Company.

March 9, 1986 – Coming Attractions at Barren River State park – Stringtime Weekend, March 14 & 15. Astronomy Weekend April 11 & 12. The Ashland Trio April 28 and Nancy Sherburne April 20.

March 10, 1986 – Arsenic and Old Lace will be presented by the Far Off Broadway players March 21 and 22. Performers include Eve Harris, Ethel Myers, Paul Allen, Lawrence Jessie and Chris Grinstead.

March 11, 1986 – Jane Kehrt’s painting, “A Floral Watercolor” has been chosen to hang in the Speed Art Museum.

March 12, 1986 – Weldon Norville retires from GTE after 37 ½ years with perfect attendance.

March 13, 1986 – Jason Hicks and Mark Chaplin lead the Barren County Trojans in a win over Monroe County 80-62 in 4th Region Tournament Play.

March 14, 1986 – AD – Grand opening of Lesa – a new outlook in women’s apparel. Located on the North Public Square in Glasgow.

March 15, 1986 – Sharon Cumberland was named “Queen for a Day” at Glasgow Christian Women’s Club Luncheon.

March 16, 1986 – Two new businesses open – Discount Hair Care at 119 Park Avenue – Estelle Williams and Carol Ramsey are owners and operators. Also Hammers & Bits, owned and operated by Ralph Payne at 519 W. Front Street – Furnishes drilling supplies to drillers and operators in Kentucky and Tennessee.

March 17, 1986 – FRECC manager, J B Galloway presented three Senior winners $500 Scholarship – Ellen Duncan, Metcalfe County, Ronda Denton, Glasgow and Tracy Thomason, Caverna. Three juniors were selected to attend Washington Youth Tour – Rebelee Sharp, Glasgow, Greg Wilson, Metcalfe County and Kathy London, Caverna.

March 18, 1986 – The Studio, which offers dance and instructional courses, opens Monday at 213 N. Race Street. Operated and taught by Melanie Asriel and Sherry Myers.

March 19, 1986 – AD – We’re Moving in our new Modern Facility, located at 205 Columbia Ave., next to the Post office – Pelham Chiropractic Office, Robert F. Pelham, BSDC, PSC, Chiropractor.

March 20, 1986 – Ronnie McDowell Concert will held in Glasgow Saturday at Glasgow High School gym. One of the band members has local roots – Greg Martin, a native of Metcalfe County, has been with the band since 1981. He resides in Glasgow with his wife, Ruth and son Eric.

March 23, 1986 – Clean up Campaign is promoted by Glasgow/Barren County Chamber of Commerce in anticipation of the Highland Games. The committee for this campaign includes Henry Heffner, Willa Taylor, Helen Nichols, Glenn Joiner and Betty Winbigler.

March 24, 1986 – Joe Grimsley is elected chairman of the group “Citizens Against Illegal Alcohol Sales in Glasgow’, a group promoting local option. Jon McGee was named Co-chairman and Jean Scalise was named treasurer.

March 25, 1986 – Approximately 40 Lexington Drive residents attend the Glasgow City Council meeting to voice their opinion on the proposed improvement of that narrow road.

March 26, 1986 – Eddie Burks is Barren County FFA Chapter’s “Star Farmer” Longtime agriculture teacher, Jewell Colliver was honored at the banquet Tuesday night. Colliver is retiring after this year.

March 27, 1986 – Glasgow Senior Citizens are busy working with need crafts each first and fourth Thursday at Lera B Mitchell Clubhouse. Mrs. Robert Edwards, Mrs. Ray Proffitt, Mrs. Hollis Norris, Mrs. Anna Hoover, Mrs. J V Crawford, Mrs. Malden Smith, Mrs. Henry Steen, Mrs. Clifton Cary and Mrs. Pearlie Buford are some of the ladies working on the project.

March 28, 1986 – Annie K Rodgers announces her retirement as Director of Nursing at T J Samson Community Hospital after 31 years in that position.

March 30, 1986 – Over 500 persons attended Health Awareness Day yesterday at Glasgow High School gym sponsored by the Community Hospital, WalMart and Glasgow Daily Times.

March 31, 1986 – Glasgow Aquatic Club has a new coach, Ron Finley.
