Community Calendar Events Thursday, November 26, 2015

The Barren County Circuit/District Court Clerk’s offices will be closed today, Friday, November 27th and Saturday, November 28th for the Thanksgiving Day Holiday.

Glasgow City Hall will be closed today and this Friday, November 27 in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday. Thursday’s garbage and recycling will be collected on Monday, November 30 and Friday garbage will be collected on Tuesday, December 1. There will be no bus service Thursday or Friday. The Glasgow Landfill will be closed on Thursday but will open on Friday, from 8 to 11:30am and then will be closed again all day Saturday.  Also the Recycling at Southgate Plaza will be close Saturday, November 28.

The 7th annual Free Thanksgiving Day Feast will be today from 11am to 4pm at the Liberty District Ralph Bunche Center in Glasgow.   You may call in orders on Wednesday, November 25 and November 26.   Donations of food and supplies are appreciated and volunteers are always welcome. Cave City City Hall will be closed today and Friday, November 27.

The Glasgow Fire Department will be dipping Christmas Trees beginning this Friday, November 27th through December 23rd from 9AM to 8PM daily at Fire Station #2. Everyone using a fresh cut tree is urged to take advantage of this free service.  The tree is dipped in a flame retardant substance and will enhance the life of your tree.

Renaissance/Main Street Glasgow Light Up Glasgow activities will be Friday, November 27 at 5PM on the Square. Several musical acts/entertainers will be performing during the event; additionally Santa will be in his house on the courthouse lawn for free photo opportunities (everyone needs to bring their own camera).

Tree of Christmas Opening Ceremony, “Favorite Christmas Memories” will be this Friday, November 27 at 3PM at Eloise B. Houchens Center at 1115 Adams Street. There will be Unique trees decorated, Holiday entertainment and Festive holiday refreshments. Help local children keep a little warmer this winter by donating hats, gloves & scarves. The Trees of Christmas will be open November 28th through December 20th. These events are free and open to the public.

The Austin Tracy SBDM will meet Monday, November 30 at 4:30PM at the school.

Confederate General John Hunt Morgan Exhibit “The Horse Soldier” will be on display at the Cave Center Convention Center through March 30.  This free exhibit tells the story of the Horse Soldier during the Civil War and highlights items used by the confederate cavalrymen, particularly those of Morgan and his fellow soldiers.

Barren County Foster and Adoptive Parent Association, Red Cross JR Bets and Barren County FCA are partnering with Papa John’s to collect food for food baskets this holiday season. They are also in need of new coats and new unwrapped toys for all age groups and genders. You may drop items off at Papa John’s in Glasgow, Red Cross Elementary and Barren County High School in Mr. Steenbergen’s Room 12. Barren County High School Basketball season tickets can be purchased, Monday thru Friday from 8AM to 12PM in Room 53 in the gym. Season Tickets are $45 each and Student Tickets are $20 each. Grandparents will again get into the games free, if grandparents want a chair back reserved ticket, they will be half price. Come to the front office to sign in before going to Room 53.

The American Red Cross will have several blood drives in December. On Wednesday, December 2 there will one at WKU, Glasgow Campus from 1:30p to 5:3pm. Also the same day at Caverna High School from 9am to 2pm. On Thursday, December 3 at Kyrock Elementary from 9am to 2pm and Munfordville Baptist Church from 3 to 7pm.  A blood drive will be held at Bowling Park in Metcalfe County from 1 to 6pm on December 9.

Cave City will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2016 and to commemorate this event the Cave City Chamber of Commerce proudly announces the theme for Cave City’s 2015 Christmas Parade is “Our Historic Hometown”. The parade will be held on December 12 at 4:00 pm and the Grand Marshals will be Mayor Dwayne Hatcher and former Cave City Mayors Bob Hunt, Chris Holder and Leo Esters. Applications for the 2015 Christmas Parade are now available at the Cave City Chamber of Commerce or may be downloaded from www.cavecitychamber.com. Deadline for applications is December 4, 2015. The 36th annual Cave Sing will be held on Sunday, December 6 at the Rotunda and Rafinesque Hall.   Participants will depart from the visitor center at 2pm.    Some of the rangers will be in period dress representing different eras in Mammoth Cave’s 200 year history.  After the sun sets that night the WKU Hilltopper Astronomy Club will hold a star party adjacent to the visitor center. Please remember to attend the cave sing, walking up and down a steep hill and climbing stairs in required.

There will be a Caverna High School Advisory Council Meeting, Monday, December 7, 2015 in the high school library at 5pm.

A blood drive will be held at Bowling Community Park in Edmonton, Wednesday, December 9.

A blood drive will be at the T J Samson Community Hospital, 4th floor classroom , Wednesday, December 16 from 1PM to 6PM.

A blood drive will be held at Zaxby’s on Happy Valley Road in Glasgow, Friday, December 18 from 2PM to 7PM. Look for the Red Cross Bus.

The Community Soup Kitchen is open on Monday, Thursday and Friday from 11:30AM to 1PM.

A benefit for Cody Vibbert will be Saturday, January 16 from 10am to 3pm at the National Guard Armory.  There will be a cake walk, bingo, live music, live auction, concessions and much more.  Proceeds will go toward funeral expenses.  Cody passed away in October from injures received in a car accident.
