Frictional Games have released the first gameplay trailer for SOMA, their sci-fi horror game. Frictional Games promise that SOMA is going be more scary than Amnesia. It’s powered by a modified version of Amnesia’s engine and is planned for a September 22 release for the PC and the PlayStation 4.

SOMA is a sci-fi horror game from Frictional Games, creators of the groundbreaking Amnesia and Penumbra series.

The radio has gone silent on PATHOS-2. As isolation bears down on the staff of the remote research facility, strange things are happening. Machines are taking on human traits and alien constructions have started to interfere with routine. The world around them is turning into a nightmare. The only way out is to do something unimaginable.

After almost five years of blood, sweat and tears we can finally make the following announcement:

SOMA, our upcoming sci-fi horror game, will be released on the 22nd September this fall on PS4 and PC.

Here are three quick bits of trivia about the video:

When the video starts we are about 1 hour into the game.

The protagonist is not an amnesiac. He has an established past, knows who he is, but isn’t at all sure about the situation he’s in.

There are lots more things to explore in this level than what’s shown in the video. For instance, you can avoid the robot attack completely by acting differently.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent was an amazing game and was very well received by both critics and the community gaining a cult classic status. SOMA appears to follow a similar formula with incredibly atmospheric environments and some edge of your seat moments.

We will bring you any new information on SOMA prior to its release date as soon as it becomes available.
