The 2016 MacBook Pro is packed with great features and hardware. But it comes with stuff that users didn’t ask for either. For instance, whenever you lift the display lid, the MacBook Pro boots up there and then. The sad thing is: there is no toggle switch in macOS either to change this auto boot-up behavior. Very annoying, if you are asking me, because you don’t always want to boot up your notebook if you have the display open. Maybe you have it that way just because you wanted to clean the display or keyboard.
Thankfully though, you can disable the automatic boot-up on your 2016 MacBook Pro using a Terminal command. What’s more awesome is that you can revert back to how things were using Terminal once more. Let us show you how it’s done.
Tutorial
1. Launch Terminal on your Mac either from Spotlight or Launchpad. If you have a Dock shortcut, then that will suffice as well.
2. Now type in the following command and hit enter. Make sure you have written it exactly as it is written below. You will be required to enter your administrator password as well since this is a sudo command.
sudo nvram AutoBoot=%00
Once you are done, close the Terminal window.
If you want to revert the changes you have made, then open up Terminal again and type in the following command as it is:
sudo nvram AutoBoot=%03
And that’s how you add the lost sanity back to your shiny new MacBook Pro with (or without) Touch Bar.

The MacBook Pro is way in its infancy at this point in time. There’s a long way to go until users start to embrace the notebook completely. It is, after all, seeing a backlash from the community due to the lack of USB-A ports. The very same port that can be found in pretty much every accessory or drive that we have. So yes, a backlash was understandable, and this phase will ultimately go away as we start to see more and more USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 devices.
