Destiny, which ranks among some of the most anticipated games of 2014, landed on the last and new-gen video game consoles last week with immense hype, and the strategic release of the in-game content since its reveal combined with the arrant strength provided by the bright marketing, the game was quickly picked up by millions of gamers and critics. During the time until now, several major video game websites have released Destiny reviews, putting forward their thoughts on the game, and no matter how hyped the game was, it is apparently still Bungie’s worst game until now by review score.
Destiny Gets Lower Review Scores Compared to All Previously Released Major Titles By Bungie
Developed by Bungie, the creator of multi-billion dollar Halo franchise, the open-world connected first person shooter title Destiny launched on the latest and last-gen video game consoles a week ago. The game sold-out almost immediately after its launch and exceeded its $500 million budget in sales, but unfortunately, it failed to put an appreciable smile on the faces of many gamers and critics. So far, many reviews have cropped up from many major video game websites but all of them rate Destiny below par as the game’s offerings are much less than expectations.
Most of the reviews stamp Destiny as an average game with repetitive missions, lacking story as well as classes. It seems like all the problems lie within the original gameplay and story premises of the game, as there are very few critics complaining about the technical aspects of the game. Still putting things into perspective, Polygon prefers Call of Duty: Ghosts over Destiny, Gamespot has given it less score than Watch Dogs and equal to The Sims 4, and Giant Bomb is of the view that Bungie’s new game is no better than Madden NFL 15 and Dead Rising 3.
Of course review scores are not exactly a short for everything expressed in the complete review, but let’s leave all what’s wrong with the numbered scores behind right now and just compare Destiny with Bungie’s previous major games in terms of review scores. There has been plenty of discussion in recent years whether or not review score is a perfectly precise mean of grading a game. The fact is that there are so many things, which count in making a video game great or good, that the reviewers have to keep in line before scoring a game, so it is simply hard to shape an entire review into a number. That being said, Destiny is collecting a great praise from its fans as it is totally smooth to play, but major reviews are giving it low scores. Lower than any preview game by Bungie.
