UPDATE: Officials now say that the child being bitten by the dog and a dog being shot were two unrelated incidents.

According to deputies, both incidents happened around 4:30pm this afternoon and occurred less than a block away from one another on Blackwelder Road. Investigators say the child was bitten by their family dog, and the dog is now being quarantined. The second incident involved a woman reporting that her dog had been shot.

Officials say the dog died of injuries, and the child’s condition is unknown at this time. Investigators say the two incidents are not related, but an investigation into the dog’s shooting is ongoing.

LANCASTER COUNTY, SC — Officials say a dog was shot after biting a 3-year-old girl Tuesday afternoon.

According to reports, someone shot the dog after it attacked a 3-year-old on Blackwelder Road in Fort Mill. The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office and Animal Control are on scene.

A condition of the child and dog have not been released at this time.
