NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
WFAN’s Ed Randall, a prostate cancer survivor himself, sat down with CBS 2′s Cindy Hsu on Sunday to discuss his “Fans for the Cure” non-profit organization aimed at raising awareness.
The non-profit has been out in force all summer at minor league ballparks handing out information about prostate cancer.
“This is enormously important to me,” Randall told Hsu.
Randall said feeling healthy is not an indicator that you’re cancer-free, because prostate cancer tends to be asymptomatic.
The non-profit will hold its third annual free prostate cancer screening at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday.
A team of doctors and nurses will be on hand behind Section 220, Randall said.
He said prostate cancer has a 97 percent cure rate if it’s detected early.
