NEW YORK(AP) — Police say a 43-year-old man has died after falling from a waterfall in the Hudson Valley.
Police in Beacon tell local media that Eric Papula was swimming and fishing with his son and two friends Friday afternoon when he fell about 20 feet from a waterfall in Fishkill Creek into shallow, fast moving water.
Papula’s teen-aged son was able to get him out of the water and rescuers tried to revive him. Authorities say he went into cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Papula was a corrections officer at Fishkill Correctional Facility who had lived in Beacon before moving across the Hudson River to Salisbury Mills in 2001.
