COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The name of a woman killed in an early morning house fire in East Columbus has been released.

The fire happened about 6:00am this morning on Cannon Trace.

Columbus firefighters say it was under control and extinguished in about five or ten minutes.

It appears that the blaze started in a front bedroom of the house.

Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant says 47-year-old Rechelle Heard was found after the fire was put out.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three people were home at the time.

The other occupants were unharmed.

Columbus police, the Columbus Fire Department fire marshal, and the state fire marshal are investigating the cause of the blaze.
