FACEBOOK UPDATE AD POLICIES

Due to the vast amount of user data Facebook contains, advertisers have been able to target niche markets depending on age, location, gender, religion and many more. After hearing that advertisers were using the ‘ethic affinity’ option to exclude races from specific adverts, Facebook have adapted their policy to make sure that this option has been disabled for ads involving housing, employment and credit. They have also included an educational section to their polices outlining information on their restrictions as well as government and civil rights groups combating discrimination.



PINTEREST INTRODUCE ‘LENS’ TOOL

Pinterest has taken their visual service one step further with the introduction of the ‘Lens’ tool. This new feature enables mobile users to take a photo of something in the ‘real-world’ and allow Pinterest algorithms to search for similar images on the app. The Lens feature, as well as Shop the Look, is set to be available within a matter of weeks.

FACEBOOK CREATES VALENTINE’S DAY FEATURE

After creating temporary features for various holidays, Facebook could not let Valentine’s Day pass by without celebration. Starting February 13th, Facebook will wish you a happy Valentine’s and encourage you to share their virtual cards with your loved ones.

TWITTER IMPLEMENTS FILTER FOR ABUSIVE TWEETS

Twitter has taken significant steps to reduce the amount of visible abuse on the platform by introducing filters to remove harassing replies from timelines and in searches. This filter will hide ‘less relevant replies’ to a tweet underneath the genuine replies from other users. They will also now prevent users who have been permanently banned from the platform from creating new accounts.

GOOGLE MAPS RE-DESIGNED FOR ANROID USERS

With the addition of a new information panel located at the bottom of the home screen, users will be able to choose one of three tabs; nearby locations, real-time commute information and public transportation. This enables users to see up-to-date train times and traffic estimations. The information panel is available for Android users from the 6th February, although there has been no confirmation to when this will be introduced to iOS devices.
