FACEBOOK TO FIGHT FAKE NEWS

In the wake of criticism regarding a number of purportedly false news stories being circulated on Facebook recently, Mark Zuckerberg has outlined seven projects intended to prevent fake stories from going viral. Among those are better technical systems to detect what people will flag as false before they do it themselves, related articles quality, and third party verification. However, Zuckerberg has made it clear that he does not want Facebook to discourage the sharing of opinions.

INSTAGRAM STORIES INTRODUCES LIVE VIDEO

Instagram has announced today that it will be incorporating live video on their Stories function and, similar to Snapchat, disappearing photos and videos for Instagram Direct correspondences. Instagram is hoping that these new features will allow users to share even more freely and in the moment, whilst reassuring Instagrammers that they will know if a friend has replayed or taken a screenshot of photos or videos sent through Instagram Direct.

FOURSQUARE AND SNAPCHAT TEAM UP

Foursquare and Snapchat have partnered to make Snapchat’s location-related features better, implementing more relevant geo-filters. The enhanced Snapchat geo-filter will benefit advertisers in particular, allowing more flexibility and creativity through improved targeting capabilities. The expanding venues and categories for the platform’s database will enable brands to utilise geo-filters pegged to the likes of parks and public attractions.

FACEBOOK UNIFIES INBOXES

Facebook is introducing a unified inbox for comments and messages from Pages, Messenger and Instagram to its Pages Manager mobile app. The new feature will improve efficiency and customer service for businesses, as they will now be able to respond to followers and customer enquiries across these channels in one place. The inbox also possesses a tabbed interface and allows you to view basic profile information about people who get in touch.

TWITTER LIVE VIDEO COMING TO ANDROID TV

Twitter is launching an Android TV application to join the established Apple TV, Xbox One and Fire TV options for its live-streaming video service. The Android TV version on Twitter will offer easy access to the platform’s live streams with a feed of highlighted tweets. Additionally, there will be the ability to display Periscope broadcasts on a big-screen TV.
