9pm- Another Brother Band

Genre: Americana/Indie-Folk
For fans of: The Milk Carton Kids, Avett Brothers, Joe Purdy, Jason Isbell, Jamestown Revival, Shovels & Rope

Another Brother Band’s music runs the gamut from sad, introspective folk ballads to upbeat, Americana pop tunes. Steve and Brendan Fletcher have written a range of different acoustic songs that are all tied together by a common South Carolina-tinged, Springsteen-era New Jersey soul. Their latest release, the EP “Another Five Songs,” is rife with the buttery 2-part harmonies and eccentric allusions to Americana that they’ve become known for.

“Another Brother Band, is, as their name implies, a band made of two brothers who sing close harmony together, on sad, spectral folk songs. They have a great version of 'Make Me a Pallet on Your Floor' (after the arrangement by Gillian Welch), as well as…'Smoke Signals’.”

SATURDAY 1/9
8pm- Grasping Straws

Genre: Psychedelic Art Rock
For fans of: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the Cardigans, Throwing Muses, Cat Power, PJ Harvey, Beast Make Bomb, Fiona Apple, Led Zeppelin, Florence and the Machines, Jefferson Airplane

Psychedelic art rock with an injection of grunge and a hint of jazz. The Grasping Straws have been consistently performing in and around New York City since 2012. In July 2014, the group went on their first national tour with fellow NYC-based artist Cannonball Statman. The band's founder, Mallory Feuer, has since gone on to tour Canada and more of the US as a solo acoustic incarnation of The Grasping Straws to support the June 2015 release of the band's debut album at the Mercury Lounge in New York.

"Frontwoman Mallory Feuer blends an otherwordly, raw, bluesy edge with the fearlessness of pre-meltdown Courtney Love, both vocally and guitarwise, instantly putting this group on the map as one of New York’s most distinctive, individualistic, exciting new bands." - New York Music Daily

“The Straws are great at creating beauty from confusion and contradiction. The music is grungy rock, except when it’s jazzy folk. The lyrics are strong, heavy, and firm, yet fragile, subtle, and unstable. The stories are clear and literal, but mysterious and open-ended. It’s sure to leave any listener grasping at Straws.” - Boog City Press

9pm- Rooster

Genre: Alt Country, Rock, Americana
For fans of: PJ Harvey, Astrud Gilberto, Fleetwood Mac

Our music is a little manic, meaning all over the place because my tastes are so broad and I bore easily.   We play a few songs in spanish, Alt Country, Rock, blues, and folk pop.  The songs are “story songs”, based on experiences that unravel, so they are based around the lyrics, following a pop structure.  I have heard from several people that in live performance my music can transport the listener, make one forget where they are, maybe even mess with the idea of time a little bit.

Keyes' upcoming LP Cooking Something features a new sonic climate curated by Shareef Keyes and his older brother Glo. The crooner hand-selected a team of NYC's finest instrumentalists and formed The Groove, a band of former students from Berklee College of Music and The Juilliard School, giving the Keyes brothers the ability to orchestrate live performance influenced, sample-free music.

“The multi-dimensional artist has developed his own sound that fuses P funk, hard hip-hop drums and melodic jazz chords. With his music, Shareef Keyes intends on using sonically pleasing songs to spread meaningful messages to consumers, hoping each and every listener learns and is inspired from the audio experience.” - The Source

10pm- Ryan Brewster

Genre: Free Range Americana
For fans of: Jason Isbell, Chris Stapleton, The Weakerthans

A singer-songwriter by trade, Ryan M. Brewer is more accurately described as a traveling musical storyteller. Having always placed the primary importance on lyricism, his songs tend to float effortlessly between genres...each one falling precisely where it needs to in order to most accurately tell the story. And that's all that matters - songs and stories.

"Ryan M. Brewer is a great songwriter. He writes deep meaningful tunes filled with pathos, cynicism and witty humor - catchy without any pop whitewash. He's the genuine article." - Wayne Bertsch, Nuvo.net's Barfly

"(Ryan's recent record) 'trails' blends the soulfulness of Bon Iver's For Emma Forever Ago and a pop influenced optimism. 'trails' never loses itself entirely to its light sadness, picking up here and there to build a variety of tonal resonances that adds splashes of color to an all but washed out genre." - MillsRecordCompany.com

9pm- Olive Tiger

Genre: Electronically-Tinged Orchestral Folk
For fans of: Andrew Bird, tUnE-yArDs, Joanna Newsom

Olive Tiger uses cello, violin, guitar, and drums to craft a unique blend of melody-driven orchestral sounds. Aided by a loop pedal, Olive's hauntingly beautiful vocals are backed by seductive rhythms with an electronic tinge. Incorporating influences from folk, jazz, hip-hop, rock, classical, and electronic music, the end result has drawn comparisons to My Brightest Diamond, Tune-Yards, Joanna Newsom, St. Vincent, and Andrew Bird.

“...[Olive] Tiger, whose obsessive vocal layerings and lilting but muscled voice recall Florence Welch, Fiona Apple, Andrew Bird, and Iron & Wine." - New Haven Independent, from “SHEL Brings On Spring,” April 6, 2015

“...In the midst of [Olive’s] vocal gymnastics, she created a cloud of dust around her from the bow’s rosin hitting her cello strings. She was unfazed by the hairs on her bow breaking... Her bandmates, a violinist and a drummer, were engaging performers as well.”  - Taryn Renay, from Music Is My Friend Report [blog], November 24, 2015
