8pm- Ben R. Mackie

Genre: folk, country, Americana

For fans of: Neil Young, Whiskeytown, Townes Van Zandt, Big Star

Melbourne, Australia songwriter Ben R. Mackie “mixes folk and country inspired sounds with a distinctively Melbournian soul” (Beat Magazine) to create music that is stripped back, delicate but rough-around-the-edges: An outsider’s slant on the Americana genre.

No stranger to the world of live music, Mackie has been performing in bands since he was just a kid, along the way taking out many of Australia’s finest music prizes (including the country’s largest alternative radio station Triple J’s “Top Song” competition). Recording deals followed, as did tours with some of the nation’s finest musical acts.

In late 2013, Mackie decided it was time for a change of scenery. Armed with his Hummingbird, harmonica and a deep love for the rich history of American music, he left behind the comforts of his band and city for a new beginning in Brooklyn, New York.

Stereo Intercourse is a space/pop/experimental duo that consists of drummer/engineer/producer Jonathan Vergara and pianist/singer/producer/engineer Toma.  Together they will tickle your ears with insane imaginative beats, harmonies, and screaming vocals that are reminiscent of Bjork and Patti Smith.  STR ITR creates electronic-innovative melodic songs that enter your membrane and exit your heart like the G train.  Don't forget to wear protection when listening to these creatures, they may give you a virus of aural fixation.

“This sound, the electric technotronic beat is already having a delicious effect on my mood. Very appealing beat. The rhythm is rolling and going in and out on waves of melody. This beat is off the chain. This band has a unique sound. I think they have something.” ReverbNation January 2nd, 2015
“The vocals are unique, they are kinda a mix between Madonna and Katy Perry.”  -ReverbNation January 2nd, 2015

Shayfer James weaves surprisingly genuine musical landscapes that evoke the gauzy, sweaty sexuality of gulf-coast barrooms and the fantastical, narcotic mysticism of a Lewis Carroll-inspired three-ring circus. Mr. James' noir-infused, piano driven music swaggers from dark danceable anthems to harrowing ballads with jazz lilted satire and whiskey-dirt grit.

For fans of: Joni Mitchell, Lizz Wright, Kate Bush, Tracy Chapman

An experienced singer from Prague, Czech republic, performing her original music.
Martina Fiserova has been surrounded by musicians since the moment she was born. It took her many years to realize and accept the fact that she was becoming a musician herself. After a decade spent gaining experience on the Prague Jazz Scene (from blues and fusion oriented bands to collaborations with international bands, backing up rock stars and diving into silence with music therapy), she decided to get her ass kicked by New York City. Come check out her unique songwriting approach and intimate yet emotional vocal performance.
For this performance she will be joined by her band

“Her voice is graceful, and her phrasing and delivery are right on tempo.” - James Nadal, All About Jazz
“Her biography is impressive. (...) Jazz pop? Folk jazz? Either way it's cool, and if this is the sort of stuff she is capable of writing then I hope there is more on the way.” - Tony Emmerson, Prague Jazz Blogspot

Genre:  Electro/Synth Pop/Darkwave
For fans of: Depeche Mode, Washed Out, Sisters Of Mercy, Massive Attack, Skinny Puppy

A synthetic mix of atmospheres designed to take you on a journey through the dark neon.

“Deeply rooted in the experimental electronic sounds of the 1980s, with influences as clear as Depeche Mode and as vast as Vangelis, it's hard to believe Der Drazil formed in a garage in the suburbs of Pasadena. Weaving elements of synth pop, darkwave, and EDM, Steve Mitchell has found his sound that is at times minimal and moody, yet always catchy as hell, proving that the 80s isn't just a decade, it's a genre." - Daniel Sukara "HipStar Zine"

Genre: Bluegrass versions of 80’s 1 hit wonders
For fans of: Mr. T, Rubik's Cube, explicit lyrics stickers on CDs

Well, you’re in luck: the DeLorean Sisters reimagine synth-pop hits and keytar karaoke staples as old timey, early 20th century Americana.  It’s Marty McFly with a washboard; the Dust Bowl meets the Superbowl Shuffle. You'll never hear Toto the same way again.

9pm- Another Brother Band

Genre: Americana/Indie-Folk
For fans of: The Milk Carton Kids, Avett Brothers, Joe Purdy, Jason Isbell, Jamestown Revival, Shovels & Rope

Another Brother Band’s music runs the gamut from sad, introspective folk ballads to upbeat, Americana pop tunes. Steve and Brendan Fletcher have written a range of different acoustic songs that are all tied together by a common South Carolina-tinged, Springsteen-era New Jersey soul. Their latest release, the EP “Another Five Songs,” is rife with the buttery 2-part harmonies and eccentric allusions to Americana that they’ve become known for.

“Another Brother Band, is, as their name implies, a band made of two brothers who sing close harmony together, on sad, spectral folk songs. They have a great version of 'Make Me a Pallet on Your Floor' (after the arrangement by Gillian Welch), as well as…'Smoke Signals’.”

SATURDAY 1/9
8pm- Grasping Straws

Genre: Psychedelic Art Rock
For fans of: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the Cardigans, Throwing Muses, Cat Power, PJ Harvey, Beast Make Bomb, Fiona Apple, Led Zeppelin, Florence and the Machines, Jefferson Airplane

Psychedelic art rock with an injection of grunge and a hint of jazz. The Grasping Straws have been consistently performing in and around New York City since 2012. In July 2014, the group went on their first national tour with fellow NYC-based artist Cannonball Statman. The band's founder, Mallory Feuer, has since gone on to tour Canada and more of the US as a solo acoustic incarnation of The Grasping Straws to support the June 2015 release of the band's debut album at the Mercury Lounge in New York.

"Frontwoman Mallory Feuer blends an otherwordly, raw, bluesy edge with the fearlessness of pre-meltdown Courtney Love, both vocally and guitarwise, instantly putting this group on the map as one of New York’s most distinctive, individualistic, exciting new bands." - New York Music Daily

“The Straws are great at creating beauty from confusion and contradiction. The music is grungy rock, except when it’s jazzy folk. The lyrics are strong, heavy, and firm, yet fragile, subtle, and unstable. The stories are clear and literal, but mysterious and open-ended. It’s sure to leave any listener grasping at Straws.” - Boog City Press

9pm- Rooster

Genre: Alt Country, Rock, Americana
For fans of: PJ Harvey, Astrud Gilberto, Fleetwood Mac

Our music is a little manic, meaning all over the place because my tastes are so broad and I bore easily.   We play a few songs in spanish, Alt Country, Rock, blues, and folk pop.  The songs are “story songs”, based on experiences that unravel, so they are based around the lyrics, following a pop structure.  I have heard from several people that in live performance my music can transport the listener, make one forget where they are, maybe even mess with the idea of time a little bit.
