People are becoming more environmentally conscious than ever before. Gone are the days of being careless, wasteful and harmful to the environment. Now, more and more people are looking for ways to save money and go green. This is why so many homeowners are considering energy efficient Heating and Cooling systems for their homes. There are a number of options available, so choosing the right one for your home is a must. If you are thinking about an energy efficient Heating and Cooling system, there are things for you to consider, such as: the price, installation, energy savings, and of course, the impact on the environment. How can you choose the best energy efficient Heating and Cooling system for your home? Take some time to weigh your options.
1) Energy Efficient Heating and Cooling Systems
Is your heating or cooling system wracking up your energy bill? It may be time to upgrade. The older your HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) unit is, the more energy it requires. Essentially, your unit will need to work even harder – and use more energy – to do the same job properly. If you notice that your energy bill is climbing, the culprit may just be your old and inefficient HVAC unit. When your old Heating and Cooling system starts costing you more money, it is likely time to get it replaced.
While there are a number of different energy saving options for your home, the most common is an energy efficient HVAC unit. The average unit lasts between ten to fifteen years. If your HVAC unit is old and you feel it is time to replace it, now would be the perfect time to consider going green. There are many energy efficient HVAC units, air conditioners, and other appliances that you can use in your home. These are ideal for both lowering your energy bill and helping the environment. Yes, it is possible to save money and be environmentally conscious!
Up to 60% of your total annual energy bill is from Heating and Cooling your home. With so much of your energy use needed just to keep your home at a comfortable temperature, energy efficient Heating and Cooling systems are essential. Energy Star equipment is something to consider – it can save up to 15% on your energy bill per year. These systems can reduce your energy bill by reducing the amount of energy required to work, which benefits the environment. Whether you are looking to replace your ineffective HVAC unit or if you want to upgrade the unit that you have, be sure to look for energy saving options!
2) Tankless Water Heaters
Being energy efficiently at home doesn’t mean that you won’t have proper Heating and Cooling. In fact, you can still be energy efficient and have and endless supply of hot water when you need it. Tankless water heaters are becoming more popular. They are a great way to save money, increase the space in your home, and reduce your environmental footprint. By using a tankless water heater, you won’t have to deal with leaking water heaters or running out of hot water from overuse. Those days are over! One of the biggest benefits of this type of heating system is that your hot water won’t run out. Hot water is available when and for however long you need it. Plus, since tankless water heaters don’t need a storage tank to store the water, they tend to have a longer lifespan than traditional water heating systems.
It is time to move on from the energy sucking water heaters of the past. By upgrading your water heater, you can become more environmentally conscious. With tankless water heaters, there are options of using either a whole house unit or a single point unit – meaning that you get hot water exactly when and where you need it. These tankless water heaters are becoming popular not just because of the ease of use, but also because of the positive benefits to the environment. They dramatically reduce your energy bill. In some cases, a tankless water heater can reduce your energy bill by up to 50%. The savings are huge and the benefits are plentiful. If you want your home to be energy efficient and environmentally friendly, a tankless water heater may be something to consider.
3) Geothermal Heating
Perhaps the most environmentally friendly way of Heating and Cooling your home is geothermal heating. The Environmental Protection Agency says that geothermal heating systems are “the most energy-efficient, environmentally clean and cost-effective space conditioning system available today.” With such a serious claim, it is no wonder that people are starting to consider using geothermal heating in their homes. This type of heating system is different than many other Heating and Cooling systems, as it doesn’t require much electricity to work and it doesn’t burn oil or fossil fuels.
So how does it work? Geothermal heating uses the steady underground temperature to provide Heating and Cooling for residential homes. A water solution is used during the winter months and a coolant is used in the summer months. These solutions are circulated through pipes in the ground. These pipes then absorb the heat from the ground and bring it into the home. A heating pump inside the home takes the heat from the ground and turns it into air that can be circulated through the air ducts of your home. The pump can either heat up a room or cool it down, depending on the time of year.
There are a number of benefits to using geothermal heating systems. The most obvious is of course the low energy cost and the benefit to the environment. Since geothermal systems use a renewable energy source, your Heating and Cooling costs can be reduced by up to 70% each year. They also help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, require little maintenance, and the system can last for quite some time without needing repairs. There is however, a higher initial cost to having this type of Heating and Cooling system installed in your home. It is up to you to decide whether or not this energy efficient option is right for your needs.
Want to go green at home? Heating and cooling your home is a necessity, but it doesn’t have to drain your bank account or be harmful to the environment. When it comes to being environmentally friendly and energy efficient, there are a number of things you can do, like installing an energy efficient HVAC unit, using a tankless water heater, or using geothermal heating. Consider some of these energy saving methods and get ready to go green.
