Folks in southern Oldham County have been telling us all week about how they've been targeted so heavily by scattered thunderstorms this week. And they're right... the latest (estimated) rainfall totals from Sunday all the way through today show up to 7" of rainfall in an isolated zone near the Oldham/Shelby/Jefferson County border. Yikes! Gardens and lawns in that area are inundated with water and that's not making things easy for folks out there. Some of us are definitely ready for a break from the rain!

Unfortunately there's another chance for you guys to be targeted by storms once again. Scattered storms develop this afternoon like previous days and they may put down heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds at times. We're not looking for severe weather today and I would certainly not cancel your outdoor plans as the storms will be hit or miss. Just have the WAVE 3 News Weather app with you to keep track of things through the afternoon!

Storm chances will, overall, be going down Sunday through mid week as a ridge of high pressure builds over the Central US. We'll be heating things up into the 90s for highs for just about the entire workweek. A fly in the ointment of the drier forecast is that being on the edge of this ridge of high pressure puts us in the zone of "ridge riding" clusters of thunderstorms. These big lines and clusters of storms are called mesoscale convective systems (MCSs) and are a staple of the late summer forecast around here. Damaging winds are generally the main threat with these and a lot of the time they move in to our area during the overnight/early morning hours, limiting their overall severe weather potential, but not always. Tuesday night/Wednesday morning would be the prime time for this to happen as a wave of energy moving along the ridge takes aim at us.

Check out the video below for more about the midweek storm chance and the potential for a nice pattern change for the second week of August!
