Photo courtesty of Donatelife.netApril is National Donate Life Month.  April 30th is the last day of the month long campaign to raise awareness.  Please consider registering as an organ, eye and tissue donor. Did you know more than 117,000 men, women, and children are on the waiting list for organ transplant? Someone is added almost every ten minutes.  Each day 79 people receive organ transplants. However, 18 people die each day waiting for transplants that cannot take place because of the shortage of donated organs.  Millions of Americans choose to be tissue and organ donors.  Why donate? Because you may save up to 8 lives through organ donation and enhance others through tissue donation.  According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, last year alone organ donors made more than 28,000 transplants possible.  Another “1 million people received cornea and tissue transplants that helped them recover from trauma, bone damage, spinal injuries, burns, hearing impairments and vision loss.”  Sadly, thousands pass every year waiting for a donor organ that never comes. Know these facts.  Anyone, regardless of age or medical history can sign up to be a donor.  There is no cost to donor or their family for organ or tissue donation.  Many consider organ donation to be a final act of generosity toward others.   Visit DonateLifeFlorida and read some personal stories of Floridians whose lives have changed by the “gift of life” from a donor.  This site makes it simple and easy for anyone in the Jupiter, North Palm Beach, or Stuart areas to register as an organ donor.  If you are interested in organ donation and live outside of the State of Florida, please visit www.organdonor.gov and click on “Becoming a Donor”. You can make a world of difference in someones life.As of April 30, 2013 Donate Life Florida reported: Total Registrants - 7,111,925
