KNOXVILLE (WATE) – The holiday season has arrived in East Tennessee. Many will be decorating their homes with Christmas lights and putting up trees. However, Knox County is reminding residents on how to properly dispose of the decorations.
Residents can drop-off broken Christmas lights at Knox County solid waste facilities during regular business hours:
Dutchtown Convenience Center, 10618 Dutchtown Road
Halls Convenience Center, 3608 Neal Drive
John Sevier Convenience Center, 1950 W. Gov. John Sevier Highway
Karns Convenience Center, 6930 Karns Crossing Lane
Household Hazardous Waste facility, 1033 Elm Street
Christmas tree recycling will be at six locations in Knox County. Recycling will be throughout January and will be available for free. Trees must not have ornaments, lights, wire, string or other types of decorations. According to the county, greenwaste make up to 30 percent of the total of municipal solid waste stream.
