KNOXVILLE (WATE) – A man was convicted after an attempt to steal car battery from Wal-Mart.
Sharles Johnson, 51, was charged with theft after investigators say he stole the battery from the location in Turkey Creek on November 11, 2014. According to the report, Johnson wanted to confront loss prevention employees.
Investigators say the suspect put the battery in a shopping cart and took it past the cash registers. The report claims Johnson admitted to taking the battery when employees stopped him and said he wanted to find out if he would be caught. The suspect said he was being profiled and harassed, according to investigators.
Johnson will appear in court for sentencing on January 26.
