In an amazing interview with Toure for The New York Times, Q-Tip, Jarobi White, and Ali Shaheed spoke about what the process was making the album and sharing memories of their late friend, Phife Dawg. Here’s everything we know about Tribe’s We Got It From Here, Thank You For Your Service.
The title of their final album, We Got It From Here, Thank You For Your Service was Phife’s idea title:
When Toure asked the meaning of the album’s title, Tip responded “I don’t know. We’re just going with it because he liked it.”
André 3000, Kendrick Lamar, Elton John, Jack White and Busta Rhymes will be featured on the album:

There was a family atmosphere in the studio. According to Andre 3000, “Tip’s kind of like the father of all of us, like me, Kanye, Pharrell.”

Phife flew between Oakland and New Jersey to repair the relationship between him and Tip:
“I really believe he did the traveling back and forth, not for this record, but to make sure that me and him, Malik and Jon, were O.K.,” Q-Tip said.
All of the recording for the album took place at Q-Tip’s place:
All of the recording for We Got It From Here, Thank You for Your Service took place at Q-Tip’s studio. Busta Rhymes described the studio sessions as “phenomenal.”
There was only one rule…
“If you wrote your rhyme somewhere else, you still had to come back and lay your verse in Q-Tip’s house,” Busta Rhymes told Toure. “So we pretty much did every song together. Everybody wrote his stuff in front of everybody. Everybody spat their rhymes in front of each other. We were throwing ideas around together.”
Jack White used one of Q Tip’s guitars straight off his wall to make music:
“He just took a guitar off the wall and plugged it in and just got his wizard on,” Q-Tip said.
Jarobi believes the album was wearing Phife down…
“Doing this album killed him,” Jarobi said. “And he was very happy to go out like that.”
