Lucas Browne UD12 James Toney (117-111, 119-108, 120-108)
Through 6 rounds I felt the fight was about even. At no point was Toney offensively doing much but he often managed to completely shut down Browne's offense. Toney rolled and slipped like an old master and Browne could hardly touch him. Toney still looked shot of course, but you could tell he was once great.
However, that only lasted so long. Once Browne finally started to land his jab (round 7 or so) the fight changed. Age and "good eating" caught up to Toney and his fatigue was apparent. He was shut out in the second half of the fight.
In fact, Browne had Toney in trouble in the 12th and final round but took his foot off the gas, seemingly out of respect. Toney got to walk away from his 87th pro fight on his feet, a never-been-stopped streak dating back to 1989. Meanwhile Browne will advance to the second stage of this mini-tournament where he'll fight Kevin Johnson later this year. Johnson looked better than Browne on the undercard (though against a lesser fighter). Browne-Johnson should be interesting, but more on that later.
For now Browne is 16-0 with 14 KOs. With the victory over Toney he picked up the World Boxing Foundation heavyweight title.
Kevin Johnson TKO10 Solomon Haumono
Johnson took Haumono to school and picked him apart. The referee finally showed mercy in round 10 after Johnson sent Haumono to the canvas. Johnson's talent always shines through when he lets his hands go. Unfortunately he only seems to let his hands go against lower caliber opposition. So I suppose his willingness to engage with Lucas Browne later this year will let us know whether or not "Big Daddy" is the real deal.

In the first 2 rounds Acosta simply out boxed Pardo. From the 3rd onward she got more aggressive and beat Pardo up. Round 3 was 10-8 worthy even without a knockdown. Pardo got off her stool to start round 4 but her corner threw in the towel immediately.
Subsequently Acosta improved to 18-0-2 and defended her WBA female light welterweight title. Acosta also holds the WBC title and will probably be universally regarded as a top 3 junior welterweight once Holly Holm "retires". Her primary competition at the moment is fellow Argentine / WBO champion Fernanda Soledad Alegre and IBF champion Myriam Lamare.

Buitrago's razor sharp jab contained Escobar and eventually set him up for a counter right uppercut that nearly had him out on his feet. Everything after that was merely a formality. Buitrago floored Escobar with a straight right hand, then again with a left hook, then one final time with an overhand right. Escobar quickly got back to his feet each time but the referee had seen enough.
Thus Buitrago improved to 25-0. This 21 year old is a prospect to watch. Nicaragua has some quality little fighters (most notably Roman Gonzalez).

Sato, despite being considered by many to be the best junior bantamweight in the world, looked like a deer in the headlights from the very 1st round. Srisaket pounded him from pillar to post, relentlessly attacking the body and head until the referee finally showed mercy. This was a beatdown of epic proportions. Imagine Carl Froch vs Lucian Bute but worse and with 3 extra rounds. Yeah, it was that bad.
Thus Srisaket, born Wisaksil Wangek, went from prospect to #2 junior bantamweight in the world behind the long reigning champion Omar Andres Narvaez. His record stands at 19-3-1 with 18 knockouts and he's now the WBC super flyweight champion. Not bad for a guy who started his career 1-3-1.

Antonio Orozco TKO7 Jose Reynoso
Two former sparring partners fought the 1st round much like a sparring session, tentatively. But by round 2 Orozco began to open up, landing a big right hand and left hook along the way (punches that continued to find their mark throughout the fight). Reynoso's lack of head movement began to really cost him the more Orozco let his hands go. When the taller, upright man doesn't keep range or move his head, he's practically begging his opponent to knock his block off. It became target practice for Orozco. But Reynoso took shots to the head very well.
However, when Orozco dug the body in round 5 Reynoso took a knee and was in full retreat upon getting up. Reynoso didn't regain any control until the tail end of the round. But the tide didn't change. Reynoso continued to take a beating in round 6 and had the referee on the verge of stopping it a few times. Reynoso went down from another body shot in round 7 and the ref waved it off.
Thus Orozco improved to 17-0, 13 by way of knockout. So far he's lived up to his moniker "Relentless". The junior welterweight division should have a new player in the not too distant future.
Anthony Dirrell UD8 Don Mouton (78-74, 77-75, 77-75)
Most of this fight was a toe to toe war. Dirrell clearly had the superior footwork but chose not to use it. He beat Mouton at his own game. Did he do this because he knew he was classes above his opponent and could afford to please the fans without risking defeat? Or are his legs just not there yet following the motorcycle accident and 1.5 year layoff? Your guess is as good as mine. All I know is Dirrell used better angles on the inside, allowing him to land the better shots. But every once and a while Dirrell would pull out with is hands down and get clipped by a left hook. He didn't seem to care much...
In any event Dirrell made a successful comeback and improved to 25-0. Mouton is the 1st fighter to go 8 rounds with Dirrell, keeping his never-been-knocked-out streak intact. Dirrell weighed in at 172.5 for this fight but should be moving back down to super middleweight once he gets back into the swing of things.

In a rematch of their 6 rounder from 2011, where Vallejos escaped with a split decision, Sena got his revenge via a TKO following 2 knockdowns in the 9th round. The straight right hand did the trick, a weapon that Sena had been trying to capitalize upon the entire fight. Vallejos was dropped for the first time with the right at the very end of round 2 but made a spirited comeback in the middle rounds. However, Sena clearly closed the show.
Thus Sena improved to 12-7-2 and picked up the WBC Latino welterweight title. It's his biggest win to date.

Mike Perez UD10 Travis Walker (100-90, 100-90, 100-94)
Travis Walker has made a name for himself as quite the fighter inside the first few rounds, most notably by decking Chris Arreola and Tomasz Adamek. He's generally a very live dog early in the fight. However, against Perez, Walker was never in the fight. Perez put on a boxing clinic, slipping his way inside the taller Walker's range with ease. Odlanier Solis better watch out. Cuba's got a new heavyweight hope. Perez advanced to 19-0.
Christina Hammer UD10 Zita Zatyko (100-89, 99-90, 99-90)
In the female main event of the evening Hammer dominated like she always does. There's really no one out there to challenge her at middleweight / super middleweight. The divisions are paper thin. However, when I bought up Hammer to 2012 middleweight Olympic Gold Medalist Claressa Shields, Shields said she could take her. Too bad we'll have to wait a long time to see it...if it happens at all. Shields is on track to defend her Gold medal in the 2016 games.
In any event Hammer improved to 14-0, lifted the World Boxing Federation female super middleweight title off Zatyko, and acquired the vacant WBO female super middleweight title. She previously held the same titles in the middleweight division.
