165 years after its foundation, trendy crowdfunding helped Czapek recently relaunch and unveil a new collection in tribute to Franciszek Czapek’s Geneva workshop (born in 1811): Quai des Bergues. Inspired by a pocket watch from 1850 designed by the Polish watchmaker, it reuses the classic design, the elongated Roman hour numerals (on most of the models in the collection) and two counters (small seconds at 7.30 and power reserve indicator paired with calendar days at 4.30). The hours and minutes appear in the centre of the coal black or silver Grand Feu enamel dial tracked by either rose gold “fleur de lys” hands or blue, black or rhodium-plated steel arrow hands. The functions are brought to life by the manual wind SXH1 calibre inspired by the 1850 movement and made by Chronode. It provides a 168-hour power reserve housed in a 42.5mm case. Price: 9,900 (steel) – 25,900 CHF (rose gold). Sharmila Bertin
