“Todd Kelsay, general manager for Lyft’s Seattle office, told GeekWire that the ride-hailing company is set to move into a permanent 11,200 square-foot engineering center at the National Building in Pioneer Square this March…In Seattle, the company will have employees working on DevOps, systems engineering, developer productivity, dispatch technology, and more. The office will also be home for Lyft’s local operations and marketing team, while providing a place for Lyft drivers to ask questions or pick up materials they may need.”

“Electroimpact Inc. has 100 people working on the Automated Fiber Placement tools and three other kinds of giant, highly sophisticated assembly machines for the new Boeing jetliner. Electroimpact Inc. is doing much of this work in a 30,000-square-foot building finished in November, said Ben Hempstead, Electroimpact chief of staff…Partly in response to all this growth, Electroimpact will early next year start work on another 41,000-square-foot building, Hempstead said. The company employs 745, and is adding a few people each week, Hempstead said.”

Spanish Aerospace Tech Champion Puts Down Puget Sound Roots

“Spanish tooling company MTorres, which specializes in innovative automation technology, has bought 15 acres adjacent to Boeing’s widebody-jet plant in Everett, where it will invest $15 million to consolidate its operations in a new engineering and fabrication facility…Since buying Pacifica in 2012, MTorres has doubled the workforce it inherited to about 115 people today. With the new facility, management plans to add 60 additional people, mainly young engineers. Iñaki Elia, general manager of MTorres America, said the company tries to attract and keep talent by offering high-end jobs where engineers not only design such tools, but also integrate the electronic and mechanical systems, then install the tools at the manufacturer and get them up and running.”

“The six-year-old New York-based company, which manages 53 co-working spaces in 19 cities worldwide, is opening its third location in Seattle this coming February. “Expedia plans to expand its future headquarters on the Seattle waterfront, and first up is a new, 546,000-square-foot office building and new parking facilities that will add 1,441 stalls to the campus. The size of the new office building is roughly the same as a typical 40-story tower, but the Expedia building will be only four stories tall with expansive floor plates. Expedia says that 4,500 employees will work at the new campus when it opens in 2019, up from the 3,000 that work at the current headquarters.”
