Seattle Beer Week kicks off on Thursday, May 12th and runs through Sunday, Mat 22nd. There are dozens of events happening around the Seattle area. Here’s what is happening at The Pine Box.

As many of you know, our friend Dick Cantwell no longer has a brewery here in Seattle, but that doesn’t mean he can’t do an event for Seattle Beer Week! Dick is bringing his friends and picking the beers for the night!

For those who don’t know:

“Dick Cantwell is among the most well-respected and experienced craft brewers, co-founding Elysian Brewing Company in 1996, where he served as head brewer until its sale to Anheuser-Busch in 2015. During his tenure, Elysian was named Large Brewpub of the Year three times at the Great American Beer Festival® (1999, 2003 and 2004).

In 2004, Cantwell received the BrewersAssociation’s Russell Schehrer Award for Innovation in Brewing. Additionally, he has written for various beer magazines, authored Barley Wine with Fal Allen, The Brewers Association’s Guide to Starting Your Own Brewery, Second Edition, and is currently at work on a forthcoming Brewers Publications title about wood- and barrel-aged beers, with New Belgium’s Peter Bouckaert. Recently appointed the Brewers Association’s Quality Ambassador, Cantwell makes presentations across the country at state guild conferences and other places where brewers gather.”
May 14th – Pine Box Beer Can Derby

The race is on! Come and try your luck racing cans cub scout style down the tracks to beer glory. Build a can car on the spot and Race to Glory!!

2pm to 4pm – Build Time

4pm – 6pm – RACE TIME!!

ALL CARS MUST PASS INSPECTION TO QUALIFY FOR THE RACE

Following are the inspection points

1. The can weight shall not exceed 5.0 ounces. The official race scale shall be considered final.

2. The overall length of the can shall not exceed 7 inches.

3. The overall width of the can shall not exceed 2 ¾ inches.

4. The can must have 1 ¾” clearance between the wheels.

5. The can must have 3/8” clearance underneath the body.

6. The can may be shaped any way that is desired.

7. The can must be freewheeling, with no starting devices.

8. You must use official Pine Box Wheels and Axles, YOUR CAN CAR MUST BE BUILT ON SITE.

Each can must pass inspection by the official inspection committee before it will be allowed to compete. The Inspection Committee has the responsibility to disqualify those cans that do not meet these specifications.

SLOambic batch two – For this vintage, 2050 lbs. of fresh berries were added to Sour Opal, a beer matured up to 32 months in oak barrels and then fermented using our proprietary blend of microflora for an additional four months. ABV: 6.3%

Agrestic 2015 Batch #2 – begins its journey as DBA, then transforms into Agrestic by a “chrysalis” process involving 85% French and 15% American oak barrels and our proprietary collection of microflora. To blend, we selected beer matured eight to 36 months in barrels, creating a synergistic beerABV: 6.6%

Krieky Bones Batch #2! – This beer begins its life as a Flanders Red style beer aged 24 months in a 2200 gallon French oak foeder. Sour Montmorency cherries are added and allowed a secondary fermentation.vABV: 5.7%

Stickee Monkee – Brewed with Belgian candi sugar and aged in a selection of fine bourbon barrels, Stickee Monkee trailblazes its own category as a “Central Coast Quad.” ABV: 12%

Velvet Merkin – Aged for a full year in retired spirits barrels from Heaven Hill, Woodford Reserve and others. ABV: 8.5%

XVIII – 38% Parabola aged in bourbon barrels, 16% Helldorado aged in bourbon & brandy barrels, 16% Bravo aged in bourbon & brandy barrels, 14% Stickee Monkee aged in bourbon & brandy barrels, 5% Velvet Merkin aged in bourbon barrels, 4% Hydra Cuvee aged in bourbon barrels, 3% Wookey Jack, 2% Ol’ Leghorn aged in new American oak, 2% Double Jack 13%abv

DBA – a.k.a. Double Barrel Ale—is regarded as a California classic, and stands as an iconic tribute to traditional cask-¬‐fermented English ales. ABV: 5.0%
