Warwick Valley High School students in STEM (science, technology, engineering & math) classes had an opportunity to visit SUNY Orange’s Middletown campus, and learn about its STEM majors, programs and classes.
WVHS STEM teachers accompanied the student groups on their visits. On Sept. 20, James Sciarra brought students from his Introduction to Computer Science class, and on Sept. 22, Mike Stolt will bring the juniors and seniors in his Computer Integrated Manufacturing Systems and Principles of Engineering classes.
The visit was designed to introduce WVHS students in STEM classes to the SUNY Orange campus, its facilities and STEM related majors and courses.
During this small group visit, WVHS students met current SUNY Orange STEM students, who led the campus tours and shared their college experiences.
Students also participated in interactive, small group problem-solving exercises led by a SUNY Orange STEM professor.
The visit concluded with a presentation by the SUNY Orange Admissions Director, who shared information and advice about the college search and admissions process.
WVHS is the first area high school to participate in this type of STEM class visit to the college. Based on its success, SUNY Orange may expand the program to other area high schools.
