Employees of Briggs Equipment and their families took time out to celebrate the company’s 10th birthday whilst raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust.

A Family Fun Day to celebrate Briggs Equipment’s 10th birthday raised £1,773 for the company’s charity partner, Teenage Cancer Trust.

At a Family Fun Day held on Saturday, October 15 at the company’s headquarters and national service centre in Cannock, Staffordshire, there were activities for all ages, including fairground rides, craft stalls and children’s party games. Live music throughout the day, warm sunshine and lots of laughter meant there was a real party atmosphere to mark the anniversary.

Peter Jones, Managing Director of Briggs Equipment, said: “We have been on an immense journey over the past 10 years, transforming the company into a successful engineering services and national asset management provider.

“The Briggs team has worked together to overcome the challenges, helping to drive the business forward. It was therefore important to commemorate this key milestone in the company’s history and thank our employees for their role in its success.

Almost 600 employees attended the event along with Heather Kreager, CEO and Darron Ash, Senior Vice President at Sammons Enterprises Inc., Briggs’ American parent company.

Also in attendance was Amanda Milling, MP for Cannock Chase, who took part in an informal Q&A session underlining how apprenticeships offer a vital route into work while also helping businesses to address the skills gap. Briggs has recently taken on 14 new apprentices who are pursuing a career in engineering.

Amanda Milling MP said: “I was delighted to be part of the event and talk to apprentices at Briggs. I believe passionately in apprenticeships as a way for young people to earn a living while they gain experience and learn important new skills. Briggs is a large employer and I applaud its decision to implement an apprenticeship programme to train the next generation of technicians. I wish the 14 apprentice engineers every success as they set about building their careers.”

As well as celebrating Briggs Equipment’s achievements over the past decade, the Family Fun Day generated £1,773 for Teenage Cancer Trust. The only UK charity dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for young people with cancer, aged 13 to 24, Teenage Cancer Trust is the company’s charity partner for 2016/17.

Briggs is now looking forward to the next 10 years as it embarks on its mission to grow the business and reinforce its credentials as a unique engineering services and national asset management provider.
