For most of us, our workday is not exactly enjoyable. We’ll be happy with “tolerable”, even. But that doesn’t have to be the case. It’s normal to get caught up in the routine, but there are ways to lessen your daily stress so you are not exhausted at the end of the day. There’s no guarantee that you’ll love every minute of every day, of course. However, with just a few changes, you can make your workday a bit more enjoyable and your life more relaxed as a result.

Pack your bag the night before

Waking up before the sun is even out is not easy for anyone, so why make it even harder? Pack your bag the night before so your groggy morning self has minimal responsibilities. If you really want to make the night count, pick your outfit and leave it laid out, to minimize the risk of wearing mismatched socks. Another great thing you can do before you go to bed is write down your “to-do” list for the following day. This way, you won’t waste valuable time (and energy) deciding what is a priority and what can get pushed another day. You will wake up and go straight into your day without a second thought.

Pack a lunch that will give you a mid-day energy boost

We all know that buying lunch every day can get expensive (and unhealthy), but the classic desk salad gets really boring after a while. You need to pack a lunch that is both healthy and delicious so it won’t drag you down in the middle of your day. Avoid carbs and empty calories and try to include a lot of lean protein instead. Good fats are great to keep you full and ward you off snacking, so don’t be afraid to include a few nuts in your lunch salad.

Schedule breaks into your routine

All work and no play will make you a dull girl. Also, super stressed out and actually less productive. It’s been proven that taking frequent breaks is better for your mental health and can help you get more things accomplished throughout the day. The ideal ratio for maximum productivity is 52 minutes of work followed by 17 minutes of rest. If that won’t get you in your boss’ good side, though, aim for at least a 5-minute break every hour. Make sure to set a timer so you don’t forget, and respect your breaks! Five more minutes of work won’t really get you that much ahead, it will only burn you out.

Add plants to your office space

If you work at an office, ask your boss for more plants to decorate the office. If that’s not possible, get some tiny cacti or succulents for your desk. Having live plants around you helps purify the air and will ease your anxiety. It’s been proving that plants help you relax and become more creative, so they will definitely aid your productivity.
