Allen County
The Allen County Highway Department is offering free sandbags at its Highway Department Barns.
The fill-them-yourself bags and sand are available until further notice at:
North Facility, 2234 Carroll Road.
South Facility, 8317 East Tillman Road.
Sandbags are available on a first-come basis and those interested will need to bring their own shovel.
Fort Wayne (Allen County)
The City of Fort Wayne will be opening sandbag stations at 3 p.m. on Thursday at the following locations:
Northside Park parking lot, 2400 Parnell Avenue.
Ash Centre parking lot, 1701 Freeman Street.
Residents will need to bring their own shovels for both locations.
Huntington County
Huntington County Emergency Management made sandbags available for the public as of 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the the Huntington County Community School Corp. Bus Terminal on St. Rd. 5. It is across from the Huntington Municipal Airport, just North of the Roush Dam / Reservoir. Sand and bags will be provided and volunteers will be there to help filling and loading sandbags. There will be a limited number of bags per person.
LaGrange County
The LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department said on its Facebook page sand would be available on North Walnut Street in LaGrange. The department said residents can also contact their local fire department - some of which will have bags but not sand. The N. Walnut location is self-serve and shovels and bags will be provided.
Noble County
Noble County residents who need sandbags are asked to contact Michael “Mick” Newton, Noble County Emergency Management Director, at 260-347-7378. or 260-636-2938. There is a limited supply of pre-filled sandbags that will given out on a first-come, first-served basis. Once those are gone the county does have supplies to residents to fill their own.
Kendallville (Noble County)
Sandbags can be picked up at the Kendallville Street Department on Weston Ave between 8a.m. and 4 p.m. on Thursday.
Steuben County
Emergency Management Director Kristy Clawson said sand and bags were available starting Thursday morning at 8 a.m. The National Weather Service issued a Flood Watch for most of northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio on Wednesday evening. The amount of snow on the ground, warmer temperatures, and the chance for heavy rain this week has increased the flooding potential for many areas. The Flood Watch in Steuben County is in effect from 7 a.m. Thursday to 1 a.m. Friday.
Residents will have to fill their own bags and bring their own shovel at the following locations:
City of Angola Street Department – 210 West Mill Street
Town of Fremont Street Department – 401 West Albion Street
Town of Hamilton – 3540 Railroad Street
Steuben County Highway Department – 1900 North County Road 200 West
