With Summer on the wane, it’s time now to shift focus to the many Connecticut fairs and festivals that are coming up this month. Whether you go for the food, the entertainment, the rides, the games, or a combination of everything, Connecticut has something for all of us fair-goers in September!
Four Town Fair – Somers – September 15 – 19
You’ll have one-of-a-kind fun at the four-day, Four Town Fair, one of Connecticut’s oldest fairs. See several great bands and the Fair Parade. Like contests? There’s the Doodlebug Drawing Contest, Largest Frog & Frog Jumping Contest, Heaviest Pumpkin Contest and Corn Eating Contest. And you won’t want to miss the Open Swine Show or the Women’s Skillet Throw. It’s fun for all!
Guilford Agricultural Fair – September 16 – 18
The Guilford Fair is part traditional fair, part circus, part Broadway theater. In addition to the midway rides, games and food, visitors can enjoy performances by the fair’s family circus – the live tiger and lion acts will wow spectators of all ages.
Orange Country Fair – September 17 – 18
From the classic car show and tractor pulls to arts and crafts and animal displays, there is truly something for everyone at the Orange Country Fair. Enjoy live entertainment and all types of mouthwatering fair food.
Durham Fair – September 22 – 25
Begun in 1916, the Durham Fair continues its tradition today as Connecticut’s largest agricultural fair. With rides and games, tractor pulls, three livestock barns, crafts, exhibits featuring baking, canning, photography and horticulture, and a wide selection of fair food, there’s a huge harvest to take in. Live entertainment this year includes Foreigner, Martha Reeves & the Vandellas and Old Dominion.
33rd Annual Harvest Moon Festival – September 16 & 17
The 33rd Annual Harvest Moon Festival will be held on the Naugatuck Town Green, Sept 16th 11am to 8pm and Sept 17th 9am to 8pm. There will be crafters, food, activities for kids, boy scout demonstrations, and entertainment on both days at the gazebo. Join us for a fun family time! 7th Annual Live Green CT Family Festival – September 19 & 20
Visit Connecticut’s largest, healthy living, fun-filled family festival for all ages, located at Taylor Farm Park, 45 Calf Pasture Beach Road in Norwalk, CT! Simsbury Grange Agricultural Fair – September 17
The 2016 Simsbury Grange Agricultural Fair is set for Saturday, Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and admission and parking is free for all. The fair features hayrides, contests, food and craft vendors, music, local agricultural displays and more!
9th Annual Garlic Festival at Olde Mistick Village – September 17 & 18
The 9th Annual Garlic Festival at Olde Mistick Village returns to Mystic with over 50 farmers, vendors, bakers and restaurants, local produce, preserves, baked goods, prepared food, crafts and concoctions. There will also be musical entertainment and activities for the kids, including a “birds of prey” program, a martial arts demo and a reptile show. Hours for the festival: Saturday, Sept. 17, 11am-7pm; Sunday, Sept. 18, 11am-6pm.
Blue Slope Country Museum Presents Draft Horses from A-Z – September 17
Blue Slope Country Museum in Franklin, CT is have a draft horse day, Draft Horse A-Z Saturday, September 17th from noon till 3 p.m. Come experience farm life and watch these amazing horses plow, drive, and be ridden. Get a chance to go on a horse drawn wagon ride and even groom a horse. Lots of fun things to see and do for the whole family. Admission is $7/person kids 4 and under are free. Blue Slope Farm is located at 138 Blue Slope Hill, Franklin, CT.

The 51st Annual Seymour Pumpkin Festival is on Sunday, September, 18th from 10:00am-5:00pm at French Memorial Park in Seymour, Connecticut.
35th Annual Harvest Festival– September 24
The 35th Annual Harvest Festival, sponsored by Guilford Civic Women, will take place on September 24, 2016, from 10am-4pm, on the Guilford Green. The festival will feature a silent auction, activities for kids, craft vendors, local organizations, entertainment, a beautiful babies and pets competition, and lots of delicious food, including the Guilford Civic Women’s famous apple crisp. The event is free to attend.
5th Annual AppleFest, – September 24
The 5th Annual AppleFest is set for Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The fest takes place at First Congregational Church, 219 North Granby Road, Granby, Conn. An “Early Bird” tag sale starts at 9:00 a.m., and will feature crafters, vendors, fresh & hot cheese bread, bake sale, lunch – soups, baked potatoes, a tea cup auction and apples.
Great Pumpkin Weigh-Off– September 25
The Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off in Ballard Park is planned for September 25, 2016 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. in Ballard Park. Growers from around the region will compete for cash prizes. There will be music, kid’s activities, meet the growers and learn about growing. There will also be a pumpkin carving demonstration, food trucks, ice cream and donuts as well as exhibitors, shopping, farm stands and more. Don’t miss the one-time only showing of the documentary film “Rise of the Giants” leading up to the weigh-off on September 11 at 3 p.m. at the Ridgefield Library.
Fall Scarecrow Festival, – September 24 & 25
Oronoque Farms is hosting the Fall Scarecrow Festival on September 24 and 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at 188 Leavenworth Road, on Route 100, in Shelton, CT.
Annual Autumn Garlic Festival – September 24
The Milford Recreation Department’s Benson-Crump Memorial Community Gardens Program is holding its annual Autumn Garlic Festival Fund Raiser at the Gazebo on the Milford Green in downtown Milford on Saturday, September 24th , from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The rain date is Sunday, September 25th.
Brooksvale Fall Festival – September 24
The 17th Annual Brooksvale Fall Festival will be held Saturday, September 24 (rain date Sept. 25), from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Brooksvale Park in Hamden located at 524 Brooksvale Avenue, 1 mile off Whitney Avenue. The festival will feature pony rides, a horse-drawn hayride, a haunted hay ride, a pumpkin patch, and nature crafts. There will be numerous demonstrations, including Birds of Prey and a K-9 police dog, and an introduction to the beekeeping at the park.
