Sports teams across the world are utilising virtual reality (VR) technology in a variety of ways. Whether that’s for training teams or individuals, marketing their brands, or getting fans closer to the action with immersive 360-degree footage. Recently American Hockey League (AHL) team, The Tucson Roadrunners, announced a partnership with 360fly to provide fans with 360-degree, 4K views this season.

The Roadrunners used the 360fly 4K camera at a Red/White game last week, in which a timelapse video was shot over center ice, while a referee wore a 360fly 4K cam on his helmet during the action for a more action oriented perspective. Both videos can be seen below.

The 360fly 4K camera is a upgraded version of the original single-lens design, providing 4K quality video footage. It does this through a new image sensor that shoots in 2880×2880. 360fly pairs with a free iOS and Android mobile app, which allows users to shoot, edit and share content to popular social media channels, such as YouTube and Facebook.

The team plans to use the camera during many events this season, giving fans an immersive viewpoint in the arena. Footage will be available via the team’s official page at YouTube.com/RoadrunnersAHL or on the team’s media page at TucsonRoadrunners.com/media/video/ as well. Exclusive footage will also be posted on The Tucson Roadrunners Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.

The inaugural home opener is 28th Friday, October at 7:05 pm against the Stockton Heat, and for all the latest VR sports news, keep reading VRFocus.
