Kendrick Lamar had quite a night at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, winning best rap album, electrifying the crowd with a dramatic performance and getting a shoutout from the White House.
Lamar also won three other Grammys for songs off his album "To Pimp a Butterfly."
He met with President Barack Obama last month as they teamed up on Obama's program to help support young men of color, and on Monday night the White House saluted Lamar "and all the artists at the Grammys working to build a brighter future."
Lamar and pop star Taylor Swift won a Grammy for her video for the song "Bad Blood."
Swift opened the broadcast by taking the stage in front of the music industry's biggest stars to sing "Out of the Woods," and later won Grammys for album of the year and best pop vocal album.
The award show is as much about the performances as the trophies, and this year the audience was treated to a song from the smash Broadway musical "Hamilton," as well as one by Adele, and a collaboration by Demi Lovato, John Legend, Tyrese and Luke Bryan in honor of legend Lionel Richie.
Lady Gaga also channeled David Bowie in a sparkling tribute to the late performer.
Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars won record of the year for their hit "Uptown Funk."
The Grammy for song of the year went to Ed Sheeran and Amy Wadge for "Thinking Out Loud." Sheeran also won a Grammy for best pop solo performance.
Pop singer Meghan Trainor won best new artist. The group Alabama Shakes won best rock song, best rock performance and best alternative album.
Chris Stapleton won the award for best country album for "Traveller." He also won the Grammy for best country solo performance.
