A Look back at last year’s event.
On Saturday, September 12, more than 400 friends and supporters of Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care gathered at the Santa Barbara Yacht Club to celebrate the 11th Annual “Yachts of Love” Charity Regatta and support Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care. Thanks to the community’s generosity, this year’s event successfully raised nearly $170,000, enabling Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care to provide compassionate and trusted care for all. To start the day, guests enjoyed a champagne welcome reception while listening to the sounds of Dixieland music. Then, to the delight of spectators on both land and sea, the Harbor Patrol performed a ceremonial fireboat display complete with fire hoses to send the racers on their way.
There were over 50 boats on the sea, including some of Santa Barbara’s finest racing vessels competing in the race, as well as a number of sailboats and power boats treating guests to a memorable view of the race from the sea.
On board some of the race boats were Celebrity Skippers – honorary skippers comprised of Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care clinicians: Leila Antonio, Cheryl Bench, Paula Curran, Stefana Dadas, Miki McGibbon, Lynda Tanner, Janice Thomason, and Tracy VanNatta.
After the race, guests headed back to the Yacht Club to enjoy a delicious barbecue dinner and a final chance to bid on the exciting silent auction items. During the evening program, Co-Chairs Robyn Parker and Sarah Berkus Gower thanked everyone who made the day so successful and fun – from sponsors and donors to sailors and staff. Parker also played auctioneer for the coveted live auction items, a plein air painting created during the event by Chris Potter, and a Maritime Museum private party for 20 people. There were nearly 30 winners of the exciting silent and live auction items – and one raffle winner of a gift basket filled with valuable goodies, including bottles of wine and restaurant certificates.
During the race awards ceremony, Santa Barbara Yacht Club Race Director Shawn Hughes congratulated the winners of the race with a gift bag. The first place winners in each class are as follows: Warrior for the PHRF A fleet; Average White Boat for the PHRF B fleet; Fleur de Lis for the Harbor 20’s; and Ferdinand for the H fleet. The coveted prize of the day went to Fred Rice with Sirocco who wonthe Yachts of Love trophy for the crew who brought in the most donations in relation to the size of their boat.
Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care is grateful to all who attended this event and extends a warm thank you to the Charity Regatta Committee, and particularly the Santa Barbara Yacht Club for hosting another successful Charity Regatta and for their continued support and partnership.
